A year in the life of the QPA

The Parents' Association at Queen’s College Junior School exists for everyone involved in the school whether they be parents, pupils or teachers.
Aim
Our aim primarily is to provide entertainment and events throughout the year, which are fun and enjoyable for everyone. We do raise money through some of these events and this money is used to provide equipment for the children throughout the departments.
Events
After a relaxing and refreshing summer holiday we look forward to an exciting programme of events. We start our year in September by providing a cup of tea in the Birchall Hall after school on the first day back. This gives new parents an opportunity to meet each other and have a chat with members of the QPA.
Early on in the Autumn Term, we also host a welcome evening which is a fabulous opportunity for new parents to meet teachers and existing parents over a delicious meal and a glass of wine.
In October we hold our Annual General Meeting where the new committee is voted in. The QPA committee is drawn from the parents and staff within the Junior School, Pre-Prep and Nursery. New members and ideas are always warmly welcomed.

Autumn Term draws to an end
At the beginning of December we hold our Christmas Fayre which is a wonderful opportunity for purchasing those interesting gifts, or just sitting and having a cup of tea and a mince pie with friends while the children take part in a variety of activities, fun games and stalls. We even have a guest appearance by Father Christmas.
The Christmas term ends with the annual Carol Service after which we provide our traditional mulled wine and mince pies. A magical way to end the term before we take our little angels home.
Winter & Spring Fun
In order to banish the winter blues The QPA organise a number of events including race nights, quiz nights and treasure hunts. There is also the ever-popular Spring disco for the children. We are always looking for new events to organise to keep the parents and their children amused.

Summer Term
As we move into the summer term our thoughts turn to warm sunny days and our annual Summer Fayre. This is a most popular event with coconut shies, jugglers and swing boats. Weather permitting everyone has a picnic on the Upper and it is a memorable day.
Year End
We end the year with the Summer Concert - a beautiful event celebrating the musical talents of the children. After this parents are invited to partake of a glass of sparkling wine and strawberries.
We all enjoy being part of this active social committee and look forward to welcoming you all to our many events.
