Co-curricular

Co-curricular

Pupils are actively encouraged to become involved in the numerous clubs, societies and activities that are available throughout the week.

Queen's prides itself on offering a huge range of artistic, cultural, academic and sporting activities that take place in the evenings, at weekends and during the school holidays. Each term a list of activities is provided for pupils and parents, posted both at school and online.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is particularly well supported. A great many staff are involved in DoE, in ways ranging from providing suggestions for reading to supporting hiking across Dartmoor or kayaking in Scotland. We are proud to have achieved the impressive milestone of having over 300 pupils reach the elusive Gold Award standard, a record for schools in Somerset. In Year 10 every pupil is expected to be involved in DoE at Bronze level; for older groups DoE is optional but strongly recommended.

Community service and charitable work is important to us at Queen's.  Pupils organise their charitable activities on a House basis and there are numerous activities during the year, from 'Strictly Come Dancing' to cake sales or a car wash business, that raise a total of several thousand pounds each term.

Many co-curricular activities are off-site at the weekends and on summer evenings. Staff willingly give up their time to run activities as diverse as rock-climbing and computer war-gaming. Comprehensive details on the different activities are available below:
