U14 County Championship

V King's Bruton won 2-0

V Wellington won 1-0

V Taunton School won 2-0

Semi Final v King's College drew 1-1 won on sudden death penalties 6-5

Final v Millfield won 3-1

Goals from Patrick Free (2), Ben Stevenson (4), Simon Stent , Harry Elsmore, Freddie King (3), and Milo Kite.

A brilliant performance from the whole squad to win the County Championships. We played some thrilling hockey culminating in an exciting final against Millfield where we dominated throughout.  The team now goes on to represent Somerset in the West Regional Finals.

V The Downs School

U13A lost 2-4 goals from Ben Jones and Jack Evans

The team showed a lot of spirit despite lacking some of their bigger players. Jacob Greenow had a busy afternoon in goal.

U13B lost 1-5 goal from Edward Haste.

We played some good hockey and our approach work and build up was good, however the finishing let us down. In contrast the opposition were industrious and had some hard and accurate shots.

U12B lost 0-1

A close game as the score suggests. The opposition scored a soft goal which we could not keep out. We created some good positions and threatened to score on at least 2 occasions. We need to play with more urgency when the opposition are in the circle.

V Taunton School

1st XI lost 0-11

Sadly there was a lack of games awareness despite some good performances from Blair Brown, Dom Alcock and James Baker.

2nd XI lost 1-9 goal from Ben Dunton

A lack of precision in our passing cost us possession in attack. Defensively we were too slow to close them down and gave them too much space. Elliot Floyd was fantastic in goal - despite the score.

3rd lost 1-11 goal from Ryan Page

We were beaten by an energetic and skilful side who had good basic skills. We continued to battle away however, and eventually got a late goal.

4th lost 0-11

Sadly we were not as fit as the opposition and did not really play as a pack. We gave the ball away too easily and gave them too much room to run. Ed Barrett played well in goal.

U15A won 6-0

A very well deserved victory where the team played with determination and a great will to win. Passing was first class and combined with the high tempo the side quickly found large gaps in the Taunton defence. A goals were taken well and the side never let Taunton even have a chance of a decent shot at goal.

U15B drew 2-2 goals from David Grenfell and Marcus Worrall

A good game which we should have won but we competed well throughout. Good performances from Marcus Worrall and Will McDonagh.

U14A won 4-0 goals from Milo Kite (2), Ben Stevenson and Oscar Webb

A good overall performance with good discipline in attack and defence.

U14B lost 1-4

We were out played by a much bigger side. Good games from Bailey Turner and Oli Barrett.

V Bristol Grammar School

U13A won 8-0 goals from Ben Jones (3), Freddie Cole, Freddie King, Ben Stevenson and Patrick Free

We had a poor first 10 minutes but then played some good passing hockey once we got going. Our defence needs some work but overall a good performance.

U12A lost 1-7

We lost to a much better team, however, we did create a few opportunities to score but were unable to finish. Well done to everyone for working hard and not giving up.

U12B lost 0-2

Considering there wasn't much match experience within the team we fought hard and defended well. We have lots to work on but a promising start.

Girls' Indoor Hockey

V Wellington

U18 XI drew 1-1 goal from Melissa Fry

This was a well contested game but we need to make sure that we keep shape in front of the goal.

U16 won 8-0 goals from Katie Cross (4), Laura Fry (2) and Hannah Larkin (2)

A comprehensive win - well done to the whole team.

Netball

V Hazelgrove Prep School

U12A lost 6-20

A good first quarter but unfortunately Hazelgrove took control and we could not get back into the game. Eleanor Fox played outstandingly well as Goal Keeper and Kate Shapland was tireless as Centre.

U12B lost 0-11

We came up against a strong team who passed with pinpoint accuracy into the shooting circle. Unfortunately we struggled to get the ball to our attacking players and had limited opportunities to score.

U12C lost 1-20

A tough game against a strong opposition and for most of the team it was their first game. Louisa Tetley played particularly well as Wing Defence.

V King Edward's Bath

1st VII lost 7-40

We fought throughout the game but sadly were up against a much stronger side.

2nd VII lost 9-16

We played well with some brilliant interceptions particularly by Isla Ness.

V Taunton School

1st VII lost 12-16

A close match but sadly we went down heavily in the first quarter and couldn't then get back into the match. There was some great play from Georgie Hale.

2nd VII lost 7-23

The team played well and we just needed to slow the play down and not panic.

3rd VII lost 13-24

More composure is needed on the ball but a good overall team performance, sadly the score does not reflect the play. There were some good interceptions from Chloe Koy and Melissa Fry worked hard throughout.

4th VII lost 9-18

This was the best game we have played yet as a team - we worked well throughout constantly applying pressure  and the score does not reflect the effort and skill that was displayed.

U15A drew 15-15

Despite controlling the game apart from the last quarter we gave away the game by panicking. Laura Fry controlled the game well as Centre feeding accurately into the circle. Katie Cross made many timely interceptions to prevent more scoring opportunities.

U15B lost 16-21

A fantastic fast paced game and we were even up to the last quarter when Taunton took control. Some fantastic movement from Tessa Down but more aggression is needed from the whole team.

U15C lost 8-19

We failed to capitalise on our scoring opportunities but did play some good netball overall. This was the first game for the C squad and hopefully they all enjoyed the match.

U14B lost 9-18

A much better effort this week, Isabelle Williams made some good interceptions and Joanna Wallace-Beecham controlled the centre court well.

U14C lost 3-25

This was the first game for the C squad and despite the score everyone enjoyed the match, it was played in great spirit.

V West Buckland

U13A lost -10

We worked really hard and had some fantastic defence - our shooters need to practice some more so as not to miss opportunities.

U13B lost 3-14

We tried really hard and there was good team spirit  - we will improve given time.

U12A lost 10-28

We tried really hard but the opposition were just too strong. Eleanor Fox played particularly well as did Kate Shapland - well done to the whole team.

U12B lost 4-5

This was a really close game evenly contested throughout. Honor Jeffery and Emily MacGregor defended well and Olivia Li played well at Centre.

Rugby

V Chilton Cantelo School

U13 A won 57-5, tries from Freddie Cole (3), Freddie King, Ben Jones (2), Ollie Carlson, Jack Evans, Nathaniel Lewis, 6 conversions from Dan Wilde.

This was a convincing win and it was great to see a number of squad players taking advantage of being given a run out for the A team and all of them made a very positive contribution. Confidence was high which enabled a couple of moves from the training ground to be included in game play. Special thanks to the Year 7 boys Joshua Joliff, and Ed Falkingham who came on in the centres during the second half and produced fearless display in both attack and defence.

Hockey

V Wellington

This was a much improved performance with a good skill level from the whole team.

1st XI

V King's Bruton drew 0-0

V Richard Huish drew 0-0

V King's College drew 0-0

V Taunton drew 0-0

V King's Bruton won 1-0

V Downside won 3-0

V Wellington won 2-0

Goals from Katie Cross (3), Laura Fry and Hannah Wilson (2)

We played well in parts especially against Millfield and we were unlucky not to score. The team was well led by Bonnie Free and Imogen Allen and Livvie Hoskins were our players of the tournament. We finished second behind King's College and go on to represent Somerset in the next round.
