Queen's College students worked determinedly to produce a very rewarding set of GCSE results, according to headmaster Chris Alcock. "Academically this was not our strongest year group but a combination of their hard graft and a lot of excellent teaching produced results that exceeded our predictions," he said.
Overall, out of 743 separate GCSE exams taken by the Queen's students almost half [43%] produced a grade of either A* or A. Three girls, Eleanor Mason, Harriet Parratt and Pearl Wilson, achieved straight A*s in each of their 10 subjects, with Hannah Robinson gaining nine.
"There were some spectacular results at the top end of the year group, students with a string of A*s," added Mr Alcock. "But at the other end of the spectrum there were very few results at less than C.
"Once again it shows the vital importance of a school really being able to add value to the core abilities of its students and Queen's always delivers in that crucial respect."
