Pride in our teams

At Queen’s College Junior School, we are very proud of our sport. We pride ourselves in not only providing a programme that is inclusive of all abilities, but also challenges the more able to succeed at county and national level.
With three P.E specialists, supported by qualified Games staff, we boast a coaching team that have themselves competed at First Class, County and National level in a number of different sports. With such expertise and experience, we believe that we have some of the best coaching in junior school education.
There is an extensive programme of inter-school fixtures and tournaments throughout the school and this manifests itself in an impressive record at all levels. In addition we regularly compete in a variety of tournaments, galas and championships at county and national level. Children are encouraged to make a full commitment to the clubs and teams that they join, and are expected to make themselves available for school fixtures if selected.
The Games content is generally delivered to single sex year groups. Boys play rugby, hockey and cricket, whilst girls play hockey, netball, rounders and tennis. In addition athletics and swimming teams are run. The College’s extensive playing fields, which include a new state of the art Astroturf, are utilised.
Games / Practices for teams are run by the member of staff responsible for each side. These sessions are active coaching situations where children are encouraged to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of their chosen sports. Wherever possible A, B and even C teams are fielded, thus encouraging all pupils to experience competitive team sport.
Clubs and practices are run for the following activities: athletics, cricket (indoor), cricket (outdoor), dance, gymnastics, hockey (indoor), hockey (outdoor), horse riding, netball, rounders, rugby, rugby 7’s, squash, soccer, swimming (beginners/fun), swimming (training) and tennis.
