ICT

Our policy is to encourage the use of computers across the curriculum, using them as a tool in as many subjects as possible. Most departments have now integrated computer modules into their schemes of work.
In addition to using computers across the curriculum, all pupils receive tuition in Years 7, 8 and 9 (11 to 14 years), to become more familiar with the hardware and software used in the school. They are taught upto at least RSA CLAIT level.
In Year 9 they are entered for the Institute of Administrative Management Certificate in ICT. To qualify for this pupils have to pass two on-line tests and submit eight pieces of cross-curricular coursework.
In Year 10 (14 to 15 years) it is possible to choose Information Technology as an option.
In the Sixth Form, students can choose to study A/S Computing which includes C# and Java programming and website programming and design.
Pupils are encouraged to use computers to research information on CD ROMs and the Internet and also to produce project work. Computers are an important feature in the two new learning resource centres and the schools intranet and VLE are being developed to help coordinate their research activities.
A computer club operates on two evenings a week to enable pupils to develop their skills and interests further.
