French is part of the core curriculum up to GCSE while Spanish is introduced to most pupils in Year 9 and then may be taken as an option in Years 10 & 11. We aim to develop as fully as possible the linguistic ability innate in all our pupils and the teaching is supportive. A wide range of techniques and materials is designed to make the process stimulating and enjoyable. Around 70 pupils go to France or Spain each year on departmental visits.

At GCSE the French course follows the AQA Specification B (Modular) and Spanish students are prepared for OCR. At AS and A2, the AQA Specification isused in both languages. Exam results in recent years have been very encouraging and a total of seventeen Queen's students have been placed in the UK top five in each of the years from 2002 to 2007 in AQA GCSE French and AS Spanish.
