The playing fields of Queen's are both extensive and adaptable: we have 30 acres to use. In the Autumn term the grass area forms 7 rugby pitches.
The Summer term makes maximum use of the grass area: a 400m athletics track and numerous rounders and cricket pitches. The two artificial playing areas are very frequently used. Both the Astroturf pitches are used for hockey daily in the Autumn and Springterms and are of such quality that Queen's has often been called up onto host County hockey tournaments. In the Summer, the older Astroturf was converted into tennis courts. The hard court surface in the middle of the field is used for netball in the Spring term and for tennis in the Autumn and Summer terms. Alongside this area are cricket nets for use in the Summer term.
The Sports Hall is used for the following activities: gymnastics, dance, basketball, badminton, volleyball, indoor hockey and indoor tennis. There is a squash court adjoining the Sports Hall and a fitness room. Within the complex is an indoor heated pool which is used at various times for swimming from Pre-Prep through to Sixth Form lessons. Team swimming and life saving clubs are regular activities throughout the year.

Curriculum
All the activities mentioned above appear in the PE/games curriculum. In addition the local countryside provides a natural facility for cross country and orienteering.
Clubs
Clubs in the activities programme are run by a member of staff throughout the week. Most of the sports mentioned are available at some time inrecreational club form.
Teams
The major team games for boys are as follows:
Rugby (Autumn term)
Hockey (Spring term)
Cricket (Summer term)
The girls primarily play team:
Hockey (Autumn term)
Netball (Spring term)
Tennis (Summer term)
Wherever possible both A and B teams are fielded in all sports thus encouraging most pupils to commit themselves to and gain from team play.
There is also an opportunity for both boys and girls to participate in the following sports:
Cross country
Athletics
Swimming
Badminton
Boys have the option of playing tennis in the summer whilst girls can play rounders.
The PE/Games Department aims to encourage the pursuit of excellence wherever possible. Also, it is hoped that the variety of sports on offer should give each child the opportunity to discover an activity which he/she can enjoy for life. Participation, enjoyment and fair play are encouraged at all times.
Exam courses are offered at GCSE and A/AS level (AQA). Both courses are popular and successful. Results for these courses are consistently above national averages as can be seen on the Exam Results page.
