Business Studies

Business Studies focuses on the developing of a student's ability to solve problems with the emphasis on the justification of their own solution - there is unlikely to be one right answer. As a result it is very much a skills-based rather than a knowledge-based course.

Basic business knowledge covered by the syllabus is merely a tool to be used in the analysis of the problem and the justification of the suggested solution.

One key element is the knowledge and understanding of the features of business activity from the viewpoint of different individuals, eg producers, consumers, shareholders, employees and society.

The Department uses a range of approaches including the innovative use of a web-based VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), case studies, videos/television programmes and site visits.
