Geography is a busy and enthusiastic department comprising three full-time specialists. Lessons are taught in adjoining classrooms, each room having TV/video and networked computers.
We follow a broad syllabus at Key Stage 3 examining aspects of the geography of the UK (Year 7), the European Union (Year 8) and the World(Year 9). At G.C.S.E. we follow the AQA 'A' specification and at AS/Alevel we follow OCR 'A'. Geology AS is also taught as an option in Year 12.
We often visit the Quantocks , Charmouth, Exmoor, Bristol Docklands, Lulworth Cove, and Iceland on field trips, as well as many other new locations when possible. Students also attend meetings of the local Geographical Association.
Head of Department Simon Ross writes a monthly "Geography in the News" column for Nelson Thornes, a leading publisher of geography textbooks. You can read it by clicking here.
