Admission to the senior school is open to boys and girls from maintained schools and independent schools that finish at 11+, and from middle schools and prep schools that finish at 13+. Applications are made to the Registrar preferably before the end of the autumn term preceding the year of entry.
Entrance exams are held in January for Year 7 entry, February for Year 9 entry and November for Year 12 entry. Separate arrangements may be made for families applying after the entrance exams have taken place and for those who wish to join after the school year has started, provided places remain available. We also welcome applications for entry into Year 8 and Year 10.
The entrance exams consist of written papers in English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning. In addition, we ask for a report and reference from the current school.
A number of Academic, Music, Sport, Art and Performing Arts Scholarships are available and further information is provided in the Scholarships section.
We recommend that families considering Queen’s College arrange an individual visit. The visit will include a tour of the School and the opportunity to look around one of our boarding houses if you are also considering boarding, followed by a meeting with the Head Teacher.
Following your visit, we hope that you will wish to register your child for entry and the Registrar will contact you to discuss your visit and to arrange a taster day. Once your child is registered they will be invited to attend a taster day to experience life in school with their peers.
Families considering boarding will visit one of the five comfortable boarding houses during their tour. Boarders in Years 3-8 live in Cotlake House; Senior girls in Years 9-13 live in Hutton House and the newly acquired Highgrove wing. Senior boys in Years 9-13 live in School House or Channon House.
Day boys and girls join one of four day houses and usually follow in family footsteps - boys join Fielding or Sibly and girls join Laker or Ashurst.
