Open Any Day at Queen’s College Taunton

Open Any Day at Queen’s College Taunton

As a certified High Performance Learning World Class School, we believe that every child can achieve extraordinary things with the right teaching, encouragement and challenge. And with Queen’s ranked in the top 2% nationally for value added, we have the results to show what that belief can achieve.

From Nursery to Sixth Form, exceptional teaching and learning are part of everyday life here. And we’re confident enough in what happens at Queen’s every day to invite you to see it for yourself.

That’s why we’re doing things differently. Rather than staging a special version of school life for an Open Day, we’re inviting you to experience Queen’s as it really is. Step into everyday lessons, meet our teachers and pupils, and see the confidence, curiosity and ambition that make our school special. Because when something extraordinary happens every day, there’s no need to put on a show.

Between 16 and 29 November, choose a day and time that works for your family and come and see for yourself. We’ll tailor your experience around your child’s age, interests and next steps. From stepping into lessons to meeting teachers and chatting with pupils, you’ll discover what everyday life at Queen’s could look like for your family.

See a World Class School in action

Walk in on world-class teaching.

Because what happens in the classroom changes what’s possible beyond it.

At Queen’s, we believe that ability is not fixed. With the right teaching, encouragement and challenge, every child can develop the skills, confidence and mindset to achieve extraordinary things.

This belief is at the heart of High Performance Learning (HPL), an approach to education that helps pupils become more confident thinkers, curious learners and resilient individuals. It teaches children not just what to learn, but how to learn, encouraging them to ask questions, think creatively, embrace challenges and recognise that progress comes through effort.

As a High Performance Learning World Class School, Queen’s has been recognised for embedding this philosophy into everyday school life. Our teachers use HPL principles to develop pupils’ thinking and learning behaviours, creating classrooms where high expectations go hand in hand with individual support.

At Queen’s, we don’t believe success is reserved for children who are already high achievers. As a proudly non-selective school, we welcome pupils with different strengths, abilities and starting points, and believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.

And the results speak for themselves.

Our pupils achieve, on average, one grade higher in every GCSE subject than expected, placing Queen’s among the top 2% of schools nationally for GCSE value added.

Unlike examination results alone, value added measures the progress pupils make from their individual starting points. It shows the difference a school makes to a child’s learning, rather than simply the grades they achieve.

For us, this recognition is about more than a statistic. It reflects the exceptional teaching, personal encouragement and high expectations that help pupils develop confidence in their abilities and make progress they can be proud of.

Why wait for an Open Day?

The best way to experience Queen’s is to see it on an ordinary day.

We know that choosing a school is about more than impressive facilities or examination results. It’s about finding somewhere your child will be happy, known, supported and encouraged to succeed. And we believe the best way to discover that is to see a school as it really is.

That’s why we’re doing things differently. Rather than preparing a special showcase for one Open Day, we’re inviting you to experience the teaching, learning and everyday moments that make Queen’s what it is. Walk into real lessons. See our teachers inspiring and challenging pupils. Speak to the children who experience Queen’s every day. Discover the confidence, curiosity and ambition that grow when young people feel they belong.

We’re proud of our High Performance Learning World Class School status and the exceptional progress our pupils make. But we don’t believe you should have to take our word for it.

A HUGE congratulations to French House, who took home the win at this year's House Music Competition with their brilliant performances of 'Waterloo' and 'Let's Groove'! 🏆🎶

Our annual House Music Competition certainly didn't disappoint, with pupils from Years 7-13 taking to the stage for one of the most anticipated House events of the year!

After a day of rehearsals, led entirely by our Sixth Form Heads of House, each House performed two songs, including one chosen around this year's theme of Family Bands.

We're delighted to share French House's winning reprise with you, and we think you'll agree they put on quite the show! 👀

A massive well done to every single pupil who took part and helped make this year's competition such a fantastic afternoon! 💛👏
