Courses
We offer a diverse range of options in addition to A Levels, such as Level 3 Diplomas and BTECs which are all equivalent to one A Level. We also encourage students to broaden their skills and knowledge beyond the traditional curriculum, preparing them for the challenges of University and the workplace by offering a range of activities including the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the Queen’s Diploma.
The skills acquired through sport, the visual arts, music, performing arts, outdoor pursuits and a myriad of other activities become increasingly valuable in the 21st Century. The Co-Curricular programme aims to complement the academic curriculum and provide ‘something for everyone’, with 100+ unique options. It gives opportunities for Queen’s College students to experience a variety of engaging activities. The programme aims to develop different skills and experiences and encourage students to challenge themselves and pursue their passions.
The Queen’s Diploma is a sixth form initiative developed to prepare our young adults for and strengthen their opportunities in early adulthood and later life. It is an exciting initiative that inspires our students to extend themselves beyond the usual. The Diploma becomes a key ingredient in application writing: highlighting transferable skills and desirable character traits, and providing examples for competency-based questions on which they will later rely. Through this Diploma, our students will build new skills, gain a range of attributes and develop a habit of lifelong learning and commitment to citizenship. Students work to achieve at least 150 credits towards the Queen’s Diploma over 13-15 months with a graduation at the end. Students can pick which credits they would like to gain across the four strands. Read more

3 of our cleaners left last week with an incredible 70 years service between them, Flo pictured has cleaned the college for 25 years. College cleaners are unsung heroes, undertaking physically demanding work at antisocial hours. They are trusted and invaluable members of the team who don`t always get much public thanks but who are absolutely key to College life, thank you☺️

Last week a group of pupils embarked on the Annual Foodie Road Trip to celebrate two of the South West`s greatest award-winning foodie entrepreneurs who have been recognised with Royal Honours.
The first stop was the award-winning Darts Farm Food Hall and Food Market in Devon, a remarkable foodie haven having won the Best Farm Shop in the UK for a record 3 years.
The next stop was Lympstone Manor named the most luxurious hotel in the South West, awarded the World`s Most Romantic Hotel and one of the World`s Best Hotels by Condé Nast. This is a five-star Relais & Châteaux country house retreat boasts Michelin-starred dining. Our pupils experienced a tour of the kitchens, guestrooms and suites, the garden, grounds and pool. They even got to taste some of the homemade treats on offer.
Then they visited Mickey`s Beach Bar and Restaurant run by Michael Caines MBE, followed by our South West supplier and producer of sustainable real vanilla pods LittlePod with the pupils getting to hear about food sustainability and provenance as well as a tour of the facilities.

Last week, Rebecca and Axel completed work experience at the Ariel Motor Company. This was a fantastic experience working alongside engineers, seeing the 3D CAD software used and redesigning brackets for the Ariel Atom 4R. They also got to work in the workshop adding in wishbones and shock absorbers onto the custom Atom 4Rs being built, as well as having the privilege of being driven around in the Ariel Atom!🏎

Two teams of Year 11 pupils successfully completed their Silver DofE Expedition this week on Dartmoor. They were self-sufficient for the 3 days carrying all of their kit with them. They coped well with some mixed Dartmoor weather including rain at times, poor visibility and some humid sunshine. A huge well done to All!👏

Two of our end of term cricket matches really celebrated the Queen`s Community - our First XI welcomed an Old Queenians side in jovial spirit and high quality performances. Old Queenians hit 111/8 in 20 overs and Queen`s First XI chased the target finishing 115/3🏏
While the Staff XI (not quite matching the cricket quality!) entertained a Parents XI with great sportsmanship and another special atmosphere befitting to our Queen`s Community. Queen`s Parents hit 175/5 in their 20 overs, and Queen`s Staff replied with 145/5🌟

Mrs Swanson and Mrs Noad enjoyed a fabulous Australia Day with Year 4 on Friday. As well as exploring where Australia is in the world, the children made and sampled their own Vegemite sandwich (with varying degrees of delight!), learned about Dreamtime stories including Tiddalick the Greedy Frog and created their own fabulous dot paintings. With many links to Australia across the College including Mrs Swanson`s family in Perth and Mr Noad`s relatives in Adelaide, it was great to share this day with the children.😊
