Having competed exactly a month ago the Green Power Car Team were keen to race again and test out the modifications and improvements they had made to their car green powered car (The Wyvern).
The Wyvern performed well, although, the race was not without its drama. A puncture necessitated a visit to the pits, however the car was back out on the track within a couple of minutes. The Wyvern’s top speed (averaged around a lap) increased by 7% compared to last race resulting in the team achieving first place in their category. A fantastic result for only their second ever event.
Looking ahead to September the next races will be at Dunsfold (the Top Gear test track) and Castle Coombe. The team will need to recruit more Year 11-13 pupils to join the team. Roles that need filling include: team management, finance, photography/videography, marketing, social media as well as the obvious technical design and engineering skills.
The team are also very keen to hear from parents, alumni and the wider Queen’s College community who wish to give their time, treasure or talents to the project. Do you have skills in engineering, electronics or CADCAM that you could share with the team? Would your business like to partner with us through sponsorship? However you wish to get involved please contact Mr Higgs: beh@queenscollege.or.uk
