We are running a quiz in aid of EDUKID, especially for one family.
Last year, a group of us went to Cambodia, during our visit we met a family in desperate need of help. Mao recently lost her husband in a tragic road accident, leaving her to bring up her three young children alone. Following the death of her husband, Mao’s oldest son (14 years old) had to drop out of education to work – to support his family. Mao also works full-time at a local school however, she only makes around £50 a month making it extremely difficult for her to provide for her children. If there are any extra costs or the children become sick that month the family are unable to afford to eat properly. We are looking at long-term solutions. Your support could help this family in breaking the cycle of poverty.
The land the family lives on is not their own – the land owner could ask them to leave at any moment. Living in such uncertainty is an immense struggle for the single mother, even the structure they live in is a temporary metal hut Mao built herself. It’s small and unstable and floods in the rainy season turning the interior to mud. The entire family sleeps on one ‘makeshift’ bed. We want to make a difference by buying Mao a plot of land. To have some security and something she can pass on to her children. It would change her and her family’s future.
For the quiz, we are hoping for 20 teams with 6 people in each team. It would be £5 entry. Any extra donations will gladly be accepted.
