Boarders: Parkrun held at Longrun

Boarders: Parkrun held at Longrun

By Mrs Cooling

A depleted School House got up early last weekend and headed to the local Parkrun held at Longrun Meadow for a 5km run, jog, or walk around this beautiful location to raise awareness of men’s health and wellbeing. The event was the mastermind of our altruistic Head of House, Franky. Not only did Franky set the winning time for today’s race at a little over 17 minutes, but he has also been busy fundraising for men’s prostate cancer. He has already raised a little over £200 through a School House JustGiving page. We would be most grateful if you could spare some change for this fantastic cause and recognize the boys’ efforts this morning by clicking the link above.

A special mention also to Jayden who came 2nd out of the Queen’s College boys and 33rd overall out of 419 runners. His first 5km Parkrun and a fantastic achievement for a Year 8 student. Huge congratulations.

We will be completing our special day today with a BBQ at 5:30 pm followed by the eagerly awaited 3rd annual Boarders Got Talent competition. Again, my thanks go to Franky for the organisation of this event. His last event before he leaves us at the end of the term and our new Head of House, Spencer, steps in. He has big shoes to fill, but we are all confident that Spencer’s calm and hard-working nature will ensure we have another fantastic leader to inspire School House.

Well done to all of the boys for their efforts today. It was a pleasure to take them out into the community and have people comment on their excellent appearance, effort, and manners.
