Nursery and Minis Round Up 22 November 2024

Nursery

This week, the nursery children have been embracing the changeable weather with a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

Cottontails have been enjoying the story Walter’s Wonderful Web and exploring a spider web sensory tray, rescuing bugs and balls trapped in the “web.” They also practiced their physical skills in the garden, climbing and kicking balls. Using their creativity, they made spiders and explored shapes through shape printing.

Puddleducks have continued their learning journey, transitioning from last week’s Road Safety theme to a focus on Fire Safety. They have been learning about fire hazards, how to stay safe, and the important role of a firefighter. In their role-play area, they acted out firefighter scenarios while learning about colours and fire safety. The wintry weather provided a perfect opportunity to explore the concepts of “hot” and “cold,” enriching their understanding through seasonal experiences.

Minis

This week at Queen’s Minis, the children explored ways to keep their bodies healthy and strong through creative and imaginative activities. Using a mix of fiction and non-fiction books, they learned about the importance of visiting the doctor and even created their very own doctor’s kits. Through play, they practiced healthy habits such as washing their hands to keep germs away and brushing their teeth to maintain bright, happy smiles.

Thursday morning brought plenty of excitement as snow made a surprise appearance! This sparked lively discussions about the weather and how it affects us, adding a seasonal twist to the week.

In outdoor education, the rainy weather provided a perfect opportunity for hands-on exploration. The children collected and measured rainwater in pots, using descriptive words like deep, shallow, full, and half-full to discuss water levels. It was a fun and interactive way to enhance their learning, come rain or shine!
