Futures Update

The Futures spring programme is a full one this term with National Apprenticeship Week and Careers Week falling within 3 weeks of each other!

Highlights in the last ten days have been a trip to University Centre Somerset’s Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre to learn more about healthcare careers. Pupils had an immersive experience, caring for high-tech dummy patients that could talk, breathe and had a pulse!

A group of Year 13 pupils attended the National Apprenticeship Show to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities within the South West. Degree apprenticeships are growing in popularity as an alternative route into higher education, combining full-time work with part-time university study working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Pupils interacted with a range of employers from different sectors to discuss the details of learning and earning simultaneously, and were wowed by some incredible starting salaries!

Cardiff University also delivered a UCAS and finance evening talk to sixth-form pupils and parents to demystify the university application process and clarify the funding of higher education.
