On a glorious day for cricket, spectators were treated to a thrilling contest that kept everyone on edge. We bowled with passion and energy, but a costly lack of discipline saw extras pile up—wides, no-balls, and byes giving the opposition far more than we could afford. Despite taking key wickets, the gifted runs helped them post a challenging total that always felt slightly beyond reach.
In response, we came out swinging—our batters unleashed a fierce counterattack, peppering the boundary and building momentum with aggressive intent. The chase was bold, thrilling, and at times looked within our grasp, but the pressure mounted and wickets tumbled late. We fell short of the target, but not for lack of heart. Though the result didn’t go our way, it was a brilliant match and a proud display of fighting spirit.

U11B/10A

This was a really super game, played in excellent spirit between two very evenly matched teams. Batting first, Queen’s played well against some very accurate Mount Kelly bowling. After only losing two wickets, Queens’ posted a score of 253. Perhaps some more aggressive running between the wickets might have resulted in a few more runs? The Queen’s bowling attack was ready and raring to go after the break, with every player keen to have a go. Mount Kelly ran well and began to gain momentum as their innings progressed. However, key wickets at key moments meant that Queen’s held on to record a close but well-deserved victory.

Girls Cricket

This week, Queen’s hosted King’s College Prep for two incredible and one hard-ball match. The A team match was a hard-fought contest. King’s College Prep bowled exceptionally well, putting Queen’s batsmen under significant pressure. Being so early in the season, the girls struggled to cope, losing a number of wickets and seeing their run rate suffer. When it was their turn to bowl, they were reasonably consistent, but did not quite match the pace of King’s, who scored well. Nevertheless, the girls learned a great deal from this match, and they can certainly take these lessons into their next game.

The B and C team matches were both very even and thoroughly exciting. Both Queen’s teams showed some good application with the bat, but need to be far more decisive and run quicker between the wickets to steal those extra runs. Special mention to Ffion and Meg, who stepped in admirably to cover absences and injuries. Alba also deserves recognition for hitting a number of boundaries, while Olivia L took crucial wickets, and Ava bowled with impressive pace and accuracy. All of this contributed to some nail-bitingly close games.
There was fantastic support amongst the teams, and some truly great cricket was played.

Cross Country

U12 Queen’s vs. Mount Kelly

The U12 Queen’s College Boys continued their impressive season with a commanding win over Mount Kelly in their latest fixture. With two victories already under their belt, both hard-fought and competitive, the U12s faced a determined U13 team that was eager to bring intensity to the game.

Queen’s College won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that immediately paid off. Max, setting the tone early, stunned the opposition by knocking over the bails before the first over had even been completed. The Mount Kelly batsmen were left reeling, and the wickets continued to fall in quick succession. Mitch joined the attack, claiming a wicket shortly after, and from there, Queen’s College tightened their grip on the match.

Max and Harry were both in excellent form, with Max picking up 2 wickets and Harry matching him with 2 of his own. Mitch 1 was also impressive, claiming another wicket as the pressure mounted. Freddie’s superb bowling spell earned him 3 wickets, while Owen supported brilliantly with 2 more. Mount Kelly, shell-shocked by the relentless attack, were all out for just 63 runs after 17.5 overs.

Queen’s College wasted no time in asserting their dominance with the bat. Henry led the charge, smashing an impressive 25 runs before retiring not out. Mitch added a solid 12 runs before falling to a catch. Max and Freddie then saw the game to a close, with 5 and 7 runs respectively.

It was a brilliant all-round performance from the U12s, who put together a complete display of bowling, fielding, and batting, securing an easy win and further cementing their reputation as one of the teams to watch this season.

Girls Cricket

Cricket has continued enjoying the sunshine this past week with home and away match play. The First XI batted 35 overs at Millfield and showed further progress with the ball too, attracting great praise for our lower-order runs and new ball attack.

The Girls’ First XI opened their season by hosting King’s Bruton at home with a mixed-year team finding their way on grass. A captain’s innings by Harriet ensured Queen’s faced 19 of 20 available overs. Alissa continued her winter nets accuracy out in the middle and helped our economy in what proved a tougher game than anticipated.

The Year 9 and 10 cricketers got our Wells block off to a good start on Tuesday by chasing 137 to win for the loss of one wicket with 5 overs spare. Felix, Leo and Munesu all achieved retirement scores, and our side boasted 9 different bowlers in restricting their total on a glorious pitch with fast outfield.

Year 7 and 8  girls played a variety of formats away to Kings on Wednesday, with widespread enjoyment of pairs cricket in both hard and softball formats. The U13A team took on the King’s first team in the County Cup of 10 overs. They could have comfortably batted another ten overs and learnt the lesson to accelerate our run rate sooner, as King’s replied, passing our score with 3 overs left.

The U12A team continued their unbeaten run with a convincing win against Mount Kelly at home, and the U13As took the game to the penultimate over in their search for the final two wickets in a hotly contested T20.

U12A  King’s Prep

A lovely day for a game of cricket. A hardworking group with lots of enthusiasm. Emily was awarded best bowler and Anya was awarded best batter by the opposition. Lots of effective fielding getting the ball back to the bowler efficiently and some fantastic defensive batting against strong bowling opposition. Lots to work on and develop.

Athletics

Tuesday 6th of May saw 25 athletes attend the Taunton area schools champs at Castle athletics track. Some fantastic performances and rewarding results for all involved.
