The Year 5 and 6 girls have had a fantastic start to their hockey season! They have all shown great enthusiasm and determination, making huge progress in their lessons. It’s been especially wonderful to see how quickly the returning players have found their rhythm, while those new to the game have been listening and watching brilliantly.
Year 5 and 6 kicked off their pre-season rugby training with great enthusiasm and teamwork. The players showed plenty of energy as they worked on their core skills, focusing on passing, movement, and tackling technique. There was a clear sense of enjoyment throughout the session, with everyone eager to learn and improve. With strong effort and growing confidence, the group is building a solid platform for the season ahead.
The Year 3 and 4 girls were a little delayed starting their hockey by a giant thunderstorm on Monday, but when they hit the astro they thoroughly enjoyed their sessions with Mr. Knight, who was impressed with their ball-carrying skills. It’s wonderful to see such promising talent so early in their hockey journey. Next week Year 5 and 6 have their first matches with the U10’s at home to Wellington and U11’s away for a triangular. The U11A team will also have their first tournament at West Buckland.

The U12s demonstrated a great deal of potential across their matches. This young group is beginning to come together well, displaying moments of individual skill and growing tactical awareness. Their enthusiasm was evident throughout the day, and their willingness to listen, learn and adapt stood out. With continued focus on the fundamentals and increased match experience, this team has a promising future ahead.
The U14s impressed with their grit and determination. They faced physically strong opposition but never backed down from the challenge. Their work rate off the ball and defensive organisation were highlights, and their persistence in tight situations showed real character. Although the results didn’t all go their way, their attitude and commitment were exemplary.
The U15s played with an abundance of spirit, bringing excellent energy and positivity to the pitch. They worked hard for one another and produced some flowing passages of attacking play, showing creativity and good decision-making in key areas. Their unity as a team is growing with each performance, and the enjoyment they take from playing together is clear to see.
The 1st XI showed steady and significant improvement as the day progressed. Whilst they took a little time to settle in early fixtures, they built momentum and confidence with each match. By the end of the day, their structure, communication, and overall quality of play had lifted noticeably. It was a strong finish that reflected their growing cohesion and tactical maturity.
A huge well done to all players and coaches for their hard work and positive attitude over the weekend. Each squad made valuable progress, and we look forward to building on these performances in the coming weeks.
