11A Boys vs Millfield – By Mr Venning
The team delivered a strong all-round performance, working effectively together and showing clear cohesion throughout the match. There were several technical moments of brilliance from Theo and Thomas, with players demonstrating good control, composure on the ball, and intelligent decision-making under pressure. Passing was a particular strength, as the team moved the ball with purpose and accuracy, creating positive momentum and maintaining possession well across the pitch. Oliver utilised the wings well, causing a constant threat. To take the next step, the focus must be on developing greater stamina to sustain this level of performance for the full duration of the game, as well as improving the creation and conversion of scoring opportunities in the attacking circle.
10B Boys vs Millfield – By Mr Venning
The team showed clear signs of developing progress, building on recent performances with greater confidence and understanding across the pitch. Play was more structured, with improved decision-making and a growing willingness to support one another in both attack and defence. Standout performances from Badis and Freddie were particularly impressive, as they demonstrated strong technical ability, work rate, and leadership in key moments. While there is still room to improve consistency and execution, the overall performance reflected positive development and a promising trajectory for future matches.
10A Boys vs Millfield – By Mr Burlingham
A super opening match of the season. The whole squad played well together and tried to implement the philosophy and targets talked about and practised at the few training sessions we’ve had so far; keeping our play ‘green’ and moving the ball to space. As a result, the boys played quick, moving hockey and scored some super goals. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress the boys make over the next few weeks!
11B Boys vs Millfield – By Mr Burlingham
Our boys played with great spirit and determination and put together a super performance. The opposition (both teams!!) where strong opposition but our boys didn’t let the scoreline get them down and I was so impressed with how they continued to battle hard throughout the match. They showed real progress through the match; tackling, passing to their own teammate and moving the ball forward into space. Well done lads! You can be proud of your efforts!

Prep Girls – By Mrs Gardener
The weather for training sessions has been favorable so far, and today began as another bright, cold day. However, as the afternoon progressed, clouds rolled in and the five teams played through cold, drizzly conditions. While the weather was challenging, it did not hamper the players’ determination.
Three teams travelled to West Buckland for triangular fixtures against Wellington and West Buckland. The U10B/C team started well against Wellington, moving the ball down the court with impressive speed, particularly from Frankie. While converting shots proved difficult and marking was inconsistent at times, it was a solid performance from all involved. The U10A team were superb defenders; despite facing significantly taller opponents, they marked effectively, with Elsie S making some excellent interceptions. Shooting remains a focus for development, specifically working on getting the ball as close to the post as possible.
U11A vs Wellington – By Mrs Foster
The U11A team showed great resilience in their matches. The first match against Wellington was well matched and at times the girls moved the ball effectively down the court. Our second match against West Buckland was more challenging. We were cold and wet playing the dry and rested host team. The falling rain and temperature took away our momentum from a really positive start to the season. West Buckland were very capable, from tall defenders to unstoppable shooters. We competed well in the centre third, but still need to time our movement away and towards so we get in front to complete more passes.
U11B and U10B vs Perrott Hillby – By Mrs Czeres
Our Mixed Year 5 and 6 B teams, the Black and Yellows, displayed incredible drive and resilience in their season opener against a formidable Perrott’s Hill Mixed A team. Facing exceptionally strong opponents, our players were tested from the first whistle, particularly in the defensive third. While the match highlighted areas for growth—specifically marking players more tightly and preventing rebounds around the post—the team’s determination never wavered—their ability to stay focused under pressure served as a testament to their budding competitive spirit.
The highlight of the matches came from the attacking end, where Polly and Emilie G each converted fantastic goals to reward the team’s hard work. Beyond the scoreline, it was wonderful to witness the children’s genuine love for netball, which was evident from the initial warm-ups through to the final whistle. This first outing provided a solid foundation for the season, proving that while there are technical skills to refine, the heart and enthusiasm of both teams are already in peak form.

U12 vs King’s Burton By Mrs Halls
The Under 12 A team enjoyed a positive start to the season at the tournament hosted by King’s Bruton School. Playing five matches across the day, the squad rotated positions each game, giving everyone valuable experience in different roles. The team moved the ball well, showing good width and control as they passed confidently through the court. While we created plenty of opportunities, we found it challenging to convert these chances into goals. Overall, it was an encouraging performance, and with some focused training sessions there are clear areas for improvement as the season progresses.

U13A vs Millfield ByMr Knight
Queen’s and Millfield shared an exciting 2–2 draw in a closely fought match full of chances. Queen’s went 1–0 down early but responded well, fighting back to equalise before taking a 2–1 lead. Millfield continued to press and were rewarded with a last-minute equaliser, ensuring the match ended with a draw. Both teams created numerous opportunities and could easily have scored more in an entertaining match for both players and spectators.
U12A vs Millfield By Mr Bulmer
The U12A team hosted Millfield in a tightly contested fixture. Millfield started the game strongly, putting Queens under sustained pressure. Despite Queens’ defensive shape remaining solid, Millfield managed to make the breakthrough to take a 1–0 lead.
Queens responded brilliantly, increasing their intensity and tempo. This led to two quick-fire goals from Alex Pawley, both coming from excellent interplay between the midfield and wingers, turning the game in Queens’ favour.
Queens came out of the blocks quickly, adding two further goals. Millfield responded with an excellent team goal, but the second half saw strong defensive performances from both sides, with chances limited at either end. Queens held firm to secure a well-earned 4–2 victory.
U12B vs Millfield By Mr Smith
The U12B team enjoyed a highly competitive first fixture of the season against Millfield. It was an end-to-end encounter, with several players making their hockey debuts, and the whole squad contributing with energy and commitment.
Queen’s opened the scoring, leading 1-0 at halftime. Millfield quickly equalised after the break, and despite numerous promising entries into the D, Queen’s were unable to find a second goal. Millfield eventually scored the winner with a superb angled shot into the corner.
The Queen’s boys can be proud of their performance; their determination and teamwork in this closely contested match bodes well for the season ahead.
