U8 and U9 Netball – Mrs Gardner
Enjoying a rare indoor fixture, the Year 3 and 4 girls displayed tremendous enthusiasm and tenacity in their opening matches of the season. At times, they produced excellent passages of play, moving the ball with both speed and efficiency. It was particularly pleasing to see the girls apply our tactical focus: creating space by drawing defenders away before driving forward into the open court. Looking ahead to next week, we will be refining our ability to mark both the player and the ball, while continuing to develop the strength and accuracy of our passing. The afternoon concluded with a well-deserved doughnut—undoubtedly the highlight for many!
U10 Gold vs Blundell’s – by Mrs Czeres
Well done to our U10 Gold team, who were well-matched on the netball court and showed incredible teamwork, ensuring every player was included in the match play. The girls offered constant reassurance and support to each other, maintaining a positive attitude regardless of whether a pass or a shot was successful. Frankie was a stand-out player on the court, notably scoring a fantastic goal. The team should be proud of their performance and will no doubt continue to develop as they build their understanding of netball.
U11B vs Blundell’s – by Mrs Czeres
The U11B team showed great positivity and spirit, playing in rather wet conditions against a tough opposition. Ffion and Rebekah both scored beautiful goals during the match. Bella shone in defence, intercepting play effectively as wing defence. The team will continue to work on defence tactics and passing drills to get the ball down the court. Well done, girls, for showing great sportsmanship, determination, and love for the sport, even while being surrounded by puddles.
U10B Black vs Blundell’s- by Mrs Foster
The U10s rotated around in their fast five netball like demons. They were really positive, encouraging each other, and adopted the wise words of Mrs G as they shared performance tips to each other on court. It was brilliant to see and hear. We took the lead on the score sheet too, and worked hard throughout the game, adapting to different positions in creating scoring opportunities and slowing Blundells down. At 3-3 with two minutes to go, we were in full competitive mode and Issy composed herself under the post to put in our fourth and winning goal to everyone’s delight. A great allround performance with lovely teamwork and as always the loudest three cheers.
U10A vs Blundell’s – by Mrs Gardner
The final scoreline on Wednesday didn’t truly reflect the hard work and determination shown by the team against Blundell’s. In our post-match reflection, the girls displayed a clear understanding of their tactical successes: they created space effectively and maintained consistent, tight marking throughout the game. Looking ahead, our training will focus on increasing the strength and accuracy of our passing, delaying opponents’ entering the shooting circle, and improving our rebounding and shooting percentages. A special mention goes to Amandine for her Player of the Match performance, though the entire squad had moments where they truly shone. There are plenty of positives to build on for our next fixture.
U11A vs Blundell’s – by Mrs Foster
We played on a wet but very grippy court at Blundells that couldn’t dampen our cod (change of direction). The girls continue to wish for their favourite positions, but are ever-improving at sharing and adapting. On balance we have more attacking minded players and so ‘mark your player’ is probably still ringing in their ears. We did this collectively at times and forced a few held balls by Blundells by stifling any passing options. Equally our going away and towards made for some excellent progress down the court at times, and our catching success of a wet ball was very good. That final pass into shooting positions thwarted our chances of competing more, but the girls played with splashing feet and smiles on their faces so getting the game on was the winner.

U8 & U9 Boys vs Wells Cathedral – By Mr Venning
The Year 3 and 4 hockey teams produced a hugely enjoyable and competitive performance against Wells Cathedral in what was a great game from start to finish. From the opening whistle, both teams played with enthusiasm and confidence, showing impressive skill and teamwork for this age group. Queen’s moved the ball well through midfield, demonstrating growing awareness of space and passing, while Wells Cathedral responded with strong defending and quick counter-attacks. There were several excellent scoring opportunities at both ends, with the players showing real determination to track back and support one another. Standout moments included brave tackling, improved positioning, and some fantastic saves in goal, keeping the contest finely balanced throughout. Most pleasing was the positive attitude shown by all players, who competed hard, encouraged their teammates, and represented the school superbly. A great game of hockey and a very valuable learning experience for everyone involved.
U10 Boys vs Wellington & Exeter Cathedral – By Mr Venning
The Year 5 hockey team delivered an excellent performance in a high-quality triangular fixture against Wellington and Exeter Cathedral, playing with confidence, intensity, and growing tactical understanding. Across both matches, Queen’s showed real progress in their passing, movement off the ball, and defensive organisation, allowing them to compete strongly against two well-matched opponents. The team worked tirelessly, pressing effectively and transitioning quickly from defence to attack, which led to several well-constructed scoring chances. Defensively, the players showed great resilience, making important tackles and interceptions, while the goalkeeping on display was outstanding under sustained pressure. What stood out most was the team’s attitude and composure, as they adapted well between games and supported each other throughout the triangular format. Overall, it was an excellent afternoon of hockey, showcasing the team’s development and leaving plenty to build on moving forward.
U11A Boys vs Wellington – By Mr Burlingham
This was a great match, playerd in great spirit. The Queen’s boys started extremely well, passing the ball into space, progressing up the pitch with sweeping wide moves, quick hard crosses into the D which were finished expertly. As a result, they had a commanding lead by half time. However, it was a game of two halves! The second half wasn’t quite so fluid from a Queen’s point of view and despite scoring a couple more goals, they let Wellington back into the match, with some well-taken goals of their own. Perhaps resting on laurels or perhaps a bit of fatigue!? But it set up a very tense final few minutes of the match with Wellington pressing hard for a draw. But…. the Queen’s defence held strong in the end and they were eventual winners. Well done boys – but focus and fitness are perhaps a target for the next few training sessions!

1st XI vs Wellington – by Mr Knight
The first XI had their second match of the season against Wellington on Friday night avoiding the bad weather. Queen’s started off well with some great combination play to break through Wellington’s defence but couldnt quite be clinical in the D. Wellington started to get the upper edge and scored with limited D entries. At half time Queen’s were 4-0 down despite some good play. Queen’s started quickly once again in the second half and scored. We kept the pressure up and had Wellington penned into their defensive third for the vast majority of the second half. Final score 5:1 and we are looking for a more clinical match against Exeter next.
