Hockey

U9 and U8 Netball v King’s Hall By Mrs Gardener
The Year 3 and 4 girls showed fantastic progress in their second match of the season. There was a marked improvement in marking compared to our opening game, and the team’s ability to find space with speed frequently caught the opposition off guard. While the rain forced us indoors—limiting our opportunities to practice long-range shooting—the girls’ energy remained high throughout. The afternoon concluded on a high note with a spirited “three cheers” and some well-deserved doughnuts!

U11A Hockey vs St Peter’s by Mr Venning
Queen’s made a positive start, controlling early phases of the game and creating momentum. Josh D made the most of his shots on goal scoring two excellent goals. As the match progressed, that momentum was difficult to maintain, and despite creating several clear chances, and vital saves from Rex, the team were unable to convert opportunities in front of goal. It was unfortunate not to finish the match on a high, but the performance highlighted a clear focus for future fixtures: improving efficiency and confidence in goal-scoring situations.

11B Hockey vs St Peter’s by Mr Bishop
Queen’s delivered a disciplined defensive performance, showing strong organisation and determination throughout the match. Excellent goalkeeping proved crucial, with a number of outstanding saves keeping the team firmly in contention. The side also created several promising counter-attacking opportunities, breaking quickly and effectively when possession was won. Moving forward, the focus will be on using the width of the pitch more consistently to stretch opposition defences.

Netball

U10A V Kings College Prep by Mrs Gardner
Playing in a later slot gave the squad valuable time to discuss their game plan, and it was wonderful to see those tactics come to life the moment the whistle blew. The players showed a fantastic understanding of the game, spreading out well and creating plenty of room for their teammates to move.

The match was played at a thrilling pace. We attacked with bundles of energy and speed, even if our passing was a little frantic at times! Our defence was equally solid, with the team sticking close to their players and keeping a sharp eye on the ball. Looking Forward After half term, the team will be working on “rebounding” both when attacking and defending, and we will continue to polish our shooting in lessons and free time. A fantastic effort by everyone involved—well done, U10s!

U11A V King’s College and St Peters by Mrs Foster

The girls surpassed their standards of the term so far with great netball against King’s Prep A team. We got a confidence-boosting first goal with seamless progress to the circle and a successful shot. We did go 3-2 down before winning 4-3 and best of all we brought together our marking, stronger passing, and variety of feeds into the circle. Harriet won player of the match for her excellent shooting success. We then mixed up positions and players to create a tight battle with St Peters. The girls created more shooting opportunities than St Peters but we didn’t quite sink our shots as well in this second game. Nonetheless, the progress over the term was so evident and the girls really bought into sharing out roles and trying new positions to appreciate different challenges. We finished on a real high with lots to take into the second half of the season.

U10B V King’s College – Black and Gold
It was a wonderful afternoon of netball for our U10 Gold and Black teams, starting with an energetic internal match before moving on to face King’s College and St Peter’s School. These girls have a genuine love for the game, which really shows in their enjoyment of rotating through different positions and taking on new challenges. Lydia was a standout across the court, contributing effectively in both defence and attack, where she finished off two beautiful goals. A special mention goes to Matilda, whose excellent reading of the game and consistent play earned her the Player of the Match honours. What made the afternoon truly special, however, was the sportsmanship and determination the girls displayed. They didn’t just play hard for Queen’s; they showed their true character by stepping in to play for King’s College when needed, giving their all for whichever side they were on. It was another fantastic display of teamwork and spirit, and the girls should be very proud of how they conducted themselves on and off the court. Well done, ladies!

U11B V King’s College and St Peters
On Wednesday, we played St Peter’s, and we did very well. Good job, Ffion, for scoring a goal even though St Peter’s won, we still did the loudest three cheers! Thanks to our team mascot, Sarge. We also played King’s College, Taunton. Sadly, we did not score any goals, but we tried very hard, and just like the last match, we did the loudest three cheers!

It was such a joy to watch our U11B girls back on the court for this afternoon’s triangular fixture against King’s College and St Peter’s. There is a genuine spark in this group; their love for the game is obvious, but it’s the friendship and bond they share as a squad that really makes them stand out. It’s also incredibly rewarding as a coach to see the defensive drills we’ve been grinding through in training finally “click” during a match. The girls weren’t afraid to get stuck in and fight for possession, with Elizabeth putting on a fantastic defensive display across the court and Olivia earning a well-deserved Player of the Match for her hard work. Beyond the grit and the goals, I was most proud of the sportsmanship and team spirit the girls showed from start to finish. They truly look out for one another out there. As we look ahead, we’re going to focus on slowing things down just a touch to work on our “smart passing”—learning to scan the court for the best option and picking the right pass for the moment. Well done, girls, for a brilliant afternoon of working together and supporting each other.

Hockey

Queen’s U15 vs Mount Kelly – Mr Bell
Queen’s U15 secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Mount Kelly in a closely contested encounter.
Queen’s started brightly, with the game tightly contested in midfield during the opening exchanges. Kirk looked eager to drive the team forward at every opportunity, constantly seeking to move the ball on quickly, but he was crowded out effectively by a well-organised Mount Kelly midfield. Queen’s were pleased to welcome U14 players Ollie and Mo into the defensive line. Despite enjoying early spells of possession, Queen’s found themselves behind against the run of play as Mount Kelly capitalised on one of their first clear opportunities. The setback sparked a strong response. Queen’s pushed forward with renewed intensity and were rewarded when Jo fired home a thumping finish to level the score. Buoyed by the equaliser, Queen’s maintained the pressure and Jo struck again soon after, clinically converting to give his side the lead. With momentum firmly on their side, Queen’s continued to create chances. Ben, Kirk and Munesu all came close to extending the advantage, each seeing efforts drift narrowly wide. In the end, Queen’s disciplined defensive display and attacking determination ensured they saw out the game to claim a deserved 2–1 victory.

U13B vs St Peter’s – Mr Bell
Queen’s U13B produced an impressive performance on the road in a wet and windy midweek clash against St Peter’s, running out emphatic 6–1 winners.
The challenging conditions made for a lively start, and Queen’s were caught out early, conceding within the opening stages. However, the setback proved to be the wake-up call the team needed.
Henry responded in style, rifling home a thumping strike just minutes later to bring Queen’s level. That goal sparked a dominant spell of play, with slick passing combinations between Harry, Harvey and Charlie carving open the St Peter’s defence. Their sharp interplay set up Kwaku, who calmly finished to give Queen’s the lead. Henry soon added his second of the game, continuing to pose a constant threat in attack. From there, Queen’s took full control, producing a consistent wave of attacking pressure that overwhelmed the hosts. The ball moved confidently despite the conditions, and the team’s energy and determination ensured the game was put well beyond St Peter’s reach. A strong all-round performance saw Queen’s finish deserved 6–1 winners, showing resilience after an early setback and impressive attacking quality throughout.

1st XI Hockey Vs Blundells – Mr Knight
Queen’s College 1st XI faced a strong Blundell’s side in an entertaining fixture that finished 6–3 to the visitors. Blundell’s moved the ball well and were clinical in front of goal, building pressure throughout the match. Despite this, Queen’s showed great spirit and determination, responding with three well-taken goals and continuing to compete until the final whistle. While Blundell’s deserved credit for their sharp performance, Queen’s can take plenty of positives from their effort, teamwork and resilience.

1st XI Hockey Vs Mount Kelly – Mr Knight
Queen’s College 1st XI delivered a dominant performance to secure an impressive 5–2 victory over Mount Kelly. From the outset, Queen’s controlled possession and set the tempo, moving the ball with pace and purpose to create consistent attacking pressure. Their clinical finishing saw them convert chances at key moments, while a disciplined defensive display limited Mount Kelly’s opportunities. Although Mount Kelly fought hard and found the net twice, Queen’s intensity, teamwork and composure ensured they remained firmly in control throughout, rounding off a well-deserved and commanding win.

Netball

1st Team by Ms Brunt
An evenly contested competitive fixture in which the squad kept their composure throughout. Showcasing some accurate moving and passing we were confidently able to convert a majority of shots. Our defensive units competed strongly taking numerous interceptions throughout. With great resilience at the final whistle the 1sts secured a 1 goal win 19-18. Players of match were Tabbie and Izzy . Well played all.

2nd Team vs Downside by Miss Simpson

The 2nd team secured a well-deserved 18-16 win over Downside, delivering a strong all round performance marked by quick, confident through-court attacking play and effective feeding into the shooters. The attack moved the ball smoothly and created consistent scoring opportunities, while the defensive unit worked tirelessly to turn over possession and delay Downside’s shooters from finding good positions under the post. It was a hard fought match, but the teams determination and cohesion across all thirds earned them a thoroughly deserved victory.

U14 vs Downside by Mrs Halls

The Queens U14 netball team produced a top-class performance in their match against Downside, securing an impressive 25–9 victory.
The team showed significant improvement in movement and passing through the mid-court, using clever lateral passes to change the channel of the ball and create attacking opportunities. This strong link-up play laid the foundation for a confident and controlled performance. In the shooting circle, Mabel, Charlotte and Anya were outstanding, converting chances with accuracy and composure. Their consistency kept the scoreboard ticking throughout the match. Defensively, Willow and Juno led the way with excellent timing and anticipation, making key interceptions, supported well by her teammates. These turnovers helped maintain pressure and momentum. Overall, it was a superb team effort and a well-deserved win, highlighting the squad’s growing confidence, skill and teamwork. A huge thank you to all who played, and in particular to Juno and Anya who stepped up this weekend.

U12A vs King’s Prep by Mrs Halls

The U12A team played an enjoyable and competitive match against King’s College Prep, showing great teamwork throughout. The ball was transferred well through the court, with effective lateral passing helping to create strong attacking opportunities. Defensively, the team showed much improved movement, with Polly and others making some outstanding interceptions to regain possession. This strong defensive effort helped maintain pressure on the opposition. Oumou and Eleanor were both voted Most Valuable Players by King’s College Prep, reflecting their excellent performances and impact on the game. Overall, it was a positive display with great energy, skill, and teamwork from the whole squad. Final score was 13-20 loss.

U15  vs Downside by Mrs Harrison

The U15 team put in a spirited performance but unfortunately were missing some players this week.
Conditions were a little wet and windy but we had 2 close quarters and were fully in the match up to half time. Some great shooting from Teniore and interceptions from Alyssa kept us in the game. A loose 3rd quarter where we lost possession too often and provided passes that were easily intercepted allowed Downside to take a commanding lead. A great 4th quarter with accurate shooting allowed us to not lose further ground. Unfortunately, we were too far behind and could not close the gap.

U13A vs King’s Prep by Miss Simpson

The U13A team stepped up to two fantastic games yesterday. Their through‑court play was well connected, with sharp movement and excellent teamwork. We saw some great shooting and several impressive interceptions, showing real determination in both attack and defence. Every player worked tirelessly, and the team truly did Queens proud.

U12B by Miss Simpson

The U12B team worked hard together and produced some fabulous netball. Their shooting was confident, and there was excellent movement in the D to create strong attacking opportunities. Defence made clean, well‑timed interceptions, while the mid‑court worked tirelessly to move the ball smoothly through the court. A real team effort from start to finish, showing great progress and determination.

Cross Country

Following the SSAA Cross-Country Championships and the South-West Schools’ AA Cross-Country Championships in Exeter where Sahsa and Megan in Year 11 competed. Sasha has been selected as one of just 48 athletes to represent the county at the prestigious ESAA Cross-Country Championships, which will take place at Sefton Park in Liverpool on Saturday 14th March.

This is an exceptional accomplishment and even more special as Sasha is the only student from Queens selected to represent the county. To reach this level is a testament to Sasha’s dedication, determination, and consistent hard work throughout the season. The ESAA Championships are widely regarded as the pinnacle of Schools’ AA competition, bringing together the very best young athletes from across the country.

To be chosen to compete on this stage is a tremendous honour, and everyone at Queens is incredibly proud of Sasha’s achievement. We look forward to cheering her on and wish her every success as she prepares to compete at this prestigious national event.
