Minis Round Up

Nursery

The children in Cottontails have been having a wonderful time dressing up and engaging in the role-play area. The focus book, Hippo with a Hat, has sparked lots of imaginative dress-up fun, with conversations about the names of clothing items. This has encouraged children to develop their independence, especially as they try on different items in the role-play area. In addition, the children spent some enjoyable time in the garden exploring, as well as getting stuck into craft activities, creating some lovely masterpieces.

This week in Puddleducks, the children have been learning about things that can fly! They had a blast creating hot air balloon pictures and designing a large role-play airplane to enjoy throughout the week. Tickets were even created for the pretend journey, adding to the excitement! The children have also had some lovely picnics in the garden under the shade of the large tree. Water play has been a highlight, with a focus on learning colors and numbers in the sensory trays. Puddleducks have also been busy during group times naming different vehicles and discussing where they belong – whether it’s in the sky or on the ground.

Minis

Queens Minis have had a busy and exciting week filled with hands-on learning and exploration!

In their topic sessions, the children delved into the layers of the rainforest. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about a variety of jungle animals and worked together to place each one in its correct habitat. Through the group discussion, the children demonstrated great thinking as they explained why certain animals live on the forest floor, or in the canopy level. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and understanding grow.

Their second woodwork session offered a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their fine motor skills. Using real tools, they practised holding nails, turning screws, and assembling simple pieces. These activities help build hand strength, coordination, and precision, all foundations of skills in preparation for the development of writing. The children approached the tasks with great enthusiasm and care.

Daily phonics continues with new sounds being introduced throughout the week, children are so engaged and excited for the new sounds of the day and their ability to recall their previous learning is a real celebration.
