Hockey
The first chilly Wednesday coincided with everyone playing at once for two matches. There was no rest as we filled two Queen’s teams and rotated spare players for King’s to have two teams as well. The match play was end-to-end and played in a fantastic spirit. Queen’s players mixed up brilliantly, adapting to new positions and successfully connecting passes. We have made excellent tackling progress with solid block tackles, getting eyes up to pass wide and we are becoming increasingly likely to shoot early. Isobel was formidable in her low, strong block tackles. Katie was an example to everyone for running back to be ready for a 16, and Lowenna continues to lead and inspire effort and teamwork. There were positives throughout ,including the way we enjoyed the game regardless of switching around positions and even teams. Matilda scored a hat-trick against King’s for a 3-0 victory in the first game. The neighbouring pitch started with a 2-1 win for Queen’s playing the King’s/Queen’s mixed side, which soon became known as “Quings” by the girls. The second round of matches saw Quings get a 3-1 win, and a 1-1 draw in the other Queen’s – King’s contest. There were smiles all round and a unified three cheers to complete a great afternoon of hockey on the top astro.

Rugby
U11 Vs Stover – A super game of rugby. Both sides passing the ball into space to create some great tries. After some initial hesitation, Queen’s re-found their bravery in defence from their last match and remembered that putting pressure on the opposition inevitably led to turnover, which we were able to score from. Stover realised that Queen’s liked to keep the ball alive at the breakdown and pop the ball rather than setting a ruck and attacked this area with some success; quicker ‘best mates’ in support is required to stop this happening next game, lads! Another really great performance with some brilliant attack and much improved defence.
U11 non-contact vs Stover – Every match we play, this team continues to surprise and impress me. After a difficult first third, we rallied fantastically, putting our time on the training pitch into action. From forcing multiple turnovers in defence, to barnstorming runs and fast thinking offloads, it was a real team performance. My personal highlight of this game was a ‘best mate’ run that resulted in a fantastic offload, catch and try. It’s safe to say I am truly proud of how far this team is progressing with every game! Keep up the hard work!
U10 vs Stover – After learning valuable lessons from our semi-final, the team bounced back brilliantly with a composed and confident performance to secure a well-deserved win. From the outset, we played with control and purpose, tightening up in defence and showing much better decision-making under pressure. The team were outstanding, winning the physical battle and providing clear attacks for wide players, who moved it with pace and precision. Our handling was sharp, our support play relentless, and our communication much improved – clear signs that the group had taken the previous game’s feedback on board. A couple of well-crafted tries showcased our teamwork and patience, while some determined defending near the end sealed the victory. It was an impressive all-round display built on effort, discipline, and belief – a true reflection of how much this team has grown.

Last weekend, we saw Queen’s take on Leweston across a series of exciting fixtures, from the U12s all the way up to the 1st team. Every team played brilliantly, and there was a fantastic atmosphere — both on the pitch and among the family and friends cheering from the sidelines.
The girls took on the challenge of facing Taunton School, demonstrating real character, resilience, and determination against a strong and competitive side. Despite the intensity of the match, their teamwork and positive attitude never wavered. Every player gave their all — from strong defensive efforts to moments of creativity in attack — showing just how much progress has been made since the start of the season.
It was great to see so much determination, teamwork, and school spirit on display throughout the day. From impressive defensive plays to moments of creative attacking flair, each team showed real progress and commitment. It’s clear that all the hard work in training is paying off, and the players should be proud of their efforts.
Queen’s College U12 Rugby Vs Leweston U12
After falling behind 4-1 early on, the team showed tremendous work rate and self-belief to turn the game around and secure a 7-4 victory. From that point, we lifted every aspect of our play, tightening up in defence, winning every ruck and tackle, and building pressure that the opposition couldn’t handle. The forwards laid the platform with relentless effort, while the backs combined with pace and precision to create scoring opportunities. Our handling was sharp, support play incredible, and communication strong, reflecting the confidence and determination across the team. A series of well-crafted tries demonstrated both patience and skill, and our relentless energy until the final whistle ensured the win. It was an inspiring all-round performance, a true testament to belief, effort, and teamwork.
U13 Rugby Vs Leweston U13
This weekend we played host to Leweston, the boys came up out of the blocks fast, showing some great interplay between players, resulting in Queen’s finishing up the first half with a strong lead. The second half started off in a different fashion with Leweston having most of the possession, our defence was resolute with the boys putting in thunderous and counter rucking well. We ended the second half in the same way as the first half, scoring some great team tries and resulting in a win for the boys. Overall, it was a great team performance in attack and defence which resulted in us coming away as the winning side.
Queen’s College U14/15 vs Leweston School U15
In perfect autumn conditions, the Queen’s College U14/15 combined side produced a commanding performance against Leweston School’s U15 team. Queen’s won the toss and chose to kick to start the match, immediately setting the tone with strong defensive pressure. Captain Henry led from the front, making dominant tackles and consistently winning possession at the breakdown. His leadership and determination were evident throughout the game. Maurice played a crucial role among the forwards, carrying the ball hard and making significant metres in attack. His persistence and strength were rewarded early as he drove over the try line for the opening score. Oliver maintained his excellent form from the kicking tee, slotting his conversions cleanly through the posts as the scoreline continued to grow in Queen’s favour. In the back line, centres Nathaniel and Harry impressed with their defensive commitment, making numerous tackles and forcing several turnovers. Their ability to transition quickly into attack provided momentum and control across the field. By full time, Queen’s had secured an emphatic victory built on strong defence, effective rucking, and well-structured attacking phases. It was a superb team performance that reflected the players’ skill, discipline, and teamwork throughout the match.
