Prep School
A busy week for the Prep School.
Last week was the U10 Rugby festival, which Queen’s hosted and all the Year 5 girls travelled to Millfield for their festivals.
Rugby
U11A’s had a super match against Kings this week. Played in great spirit with some great rugby skills on show. Queen’s were keen to get back to playing their brand of rugby and were able to put together some super passages of play, resulting in some excellent tries. Whilst not tested too often, their defense was also improved, making it a super all-round performance.
U10 vs King’s College Prep
It was a tough and physical contest where we matched our opponents for strength and determination throughout. Both sides battled hard in the collisions, and the intensity never dropped. A brief lapse in concentration proved costly, allowing King’s to break through our defensive line and score against the run of play. Despite this setback, we continued to look for opportunities to move the ball wide and play our passing game, but King’s proved to be a well-organised and resilient side, difficult to break down. The match remained a gruelling contest right until the final whistle, with every player giving their all. Though the result didn’t go our way, the team showed real heart, discipline, and refusal to give up under pressure.

Year 5 Milfield
The Year 5 girls delivered a splendid performance at Millfield last weekend, competing against a variety of schools. Their schedule was relentless, playing a total of 20 fast and furious matches! While the pace was challenging at times, the girls fought valiantly in every game.
U11A Squad Battles Hard at Somerset Tournament
On Tuesday, the U11 A squad participated in the In 2 Hockey Somerset Tournament. As only a few top schools attend these events, we knew the standard of opposition would be high.
vs. Millfield
The girls were aggressive, showed good skill, and passed well, holding Millfield to a 0-0 draw at half-time! Although we conceded two goals in the second half as we ran out of ‘juice,’ it was a really encouraging and resilient start.
vs. All Hallows
This was an end-to-end battle where we created a number of clear chances but, disappointingly, failed to convert them.
Final Match vs Taunton
This game was also incredibly even. We scored first and seemed in control, but pushing up too high left Ffion exposed on the counter on a number of occasions, which proved to be our undoing. Despite the results, the team showed incredibly positive work throughout the tournament!
Mid-Week Fixtures at West Buckland
All Queen’s teams travelled to West Buckland on Wednesday. We were fortunate with the weather, dodging the rain for once and enjoying an overcast afternoon!
U11 Teams Shine
The U11 teams were first to take the pitch, both starting with an aggressive and attacking mindset.
U11A
Led brilliantly by both Imogens, the team opened up the pitch effectively. Strong runs on the right from Megan and Annabelle, combined with Harriet’s excellent positional play, kept us in the attacking half for most of the first half. A moment of great individual play led to the first goal from Imogen S, followed by a second, and a third from a well-worked short corner from Imogen C.
U11B
The team also played at a high tempo, scoring a huge 7 goals in their match, with Annie, Alilah, and Pixie showing consistent drive and skill.
U10 Teams Gain Valuable Experience.
U10s
The U10s then took on the same teams as the year above. West Buckland kindly ensured all our teams had a full run-out.
U10B
Had some well-balanced matches with the ball travelling end-to-end. Meyline, Matilda, and Katie all worked tirelessly across the pitch to keep the team in the game. Although west Buckland fought hard our tenacity resulted in three goals!
U10A
Faced a tough match-up and struggled to find their rhythm. Solid defence from Frankie and Nora, along with good vision, helped open up the right side well. Our difficulty was a lack of strength up front, weaker passing, and not moving the ball as quickly as West Buckland, which proved a valuable lesson learned!

U13 vs King’s College U13
The much-anticipated local derby between Queen’s and King’s College U13 lived up to expectations, delivering an exciting display of skill, teamwork, and determination.
King’s won the toss and elected to kick, but their opening effort fell short of the required 10 yards. Queen’s were quick to capitalise from the resulting scrum, with Mitch distributing the ball smoothly and Hunter powering through the pack to score the first try of the game under the posts.
Queen’s continued to dominate possession and territory, their pod play, handling, and offloads proving too much for the opposition to contain. Dillion’s smart play created space for Archie to burst through and add to the tally. By halftime, Queen’s were firmly in control with a 4–1 lead, taking confidence from their structure and attacking shape
The second half saw Queen’s maintain their composure and continue to move the ball effectively across the lines. The standout moment of the match came late in the game, deep in Queen’s defensive half. With a scrum just ten yards from their own try line, Mitch fed the ball cleanly before executing an outstanding box kick to near halfway. Mason chased hard, timing his run perfectly to collect the bouncing ball, fend off a defender, and sprint clear to score a sensational try, a perfect example of skill, awareness, and teamwork. Queen’s finished the match strongly, extending their lead to seal an impressive 9–2 victory. It was a performance built on discipline, communication, and confidence, a fitting result in a fiercely contested local rivalry.
1st XV
The game started with a strong attacking push from our side, and within the first five minutes, we managed to cross the line for an early try. The rest of the first half saw plenty of back-and-forth play, with both teams trading tries in an exciting contest.
At half time, the team came together for a focused discussion on strengthening our defensive line. The boys carried that determination into the second half, showing great improvement across the field. Our defence stood firm, and we added a few more tries to the scoreboard.
A highlight of the match was Joe, playing number 9, made a brilliant tackle on their biggest player, a real show of heart and determination! Alaaddin also had an outstanding performance with amazing footwork , finishing as the top goal scorer of the game.
Overall, it was a great team effort with plenty of positives to build on for the next match.
