Victory at The Rotary Club Debating Competition

Victory at The Rotary Club Debating Competition

Posted: 31st January 2024

On Friday 26 January, Maryam, Makanaka and Freya took part in the Taunton and Minehead District Rotary Club’s Youth Speaks competition. Their impressive performance, tackling the complex topic of human cloning, earned them first place amongst entries from two other local schools. Such was the interest from Queen’s College pupils, a separate internal competition had to be arranged to determine which team would represent the school on Friday.

Well done to Mukudzei, Sam, Kamto, Ilya, Megan and Mary-Tess for their dedication and their fascinating debates in the internal competition. Maryam, Makanaka, and Freya’s final presentation impressed the judges with its depth of research.

Makanaka was further singled out for her eloquent speaking skills, earning her the additional honour of Best Speaker in the entire competition. The team will now compete at the South West regional competition in Cheddar on 2 March, for a chance to go to the National Finals later in the year.
