The past year has seen a phenomenal resurgence in performed music at Queen’s, including vocal and instrumental concerts, and this renaissance culminated on Thursday with the season’s grand finale: Fauré’s Requiem performed by the Senior College Choir and Orchestra!
We have looked back through the archives but have yet to find another musical event of such ambition in the history of Queen’s. What made it so special? Well, apart from being a beautiful and bold programme of masterpieces by Fauré, Hérold and Grieg, this concert brought together the full forces of the senior vocal and instrumental ensembles, plus guest musicians from our own teaching staff and the wider O.Q. community. The sound was astonishing! And the event didn’t involve professionals taking main parts; it was led by the students!
Words can’t describe the beauty of the music or the quality of performances, by the musicians as a whole, and by the soloists; audience members will be able to treasure a very special event, which is the result of a massive amount of work. Soloists including Jack, Aria and Evan and the orchestra leader on violin, Ellie, all displayed the amazing skills they have learned over their time at Queen’s, producing unforgettable musical highlights.
Miss Wills, who has organised this landmark event, should be delighted that Music at Queen’s has reached such a remarkable level; we can’t wait to see the programme of musical events planned for the next academic year!
