Students at Queen’s College, Taunton are once again celebrating an exceptional set of A Level results, significantly outperforming national averages.
Impressively, Queen’s achieved 100% pass rates in over 20 A Level subjects, including Business Studies, Economics, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry amongst many other academic subjects. Standout performances were also seen in Art, Food Technology, Outdoor Education and Drama with all pupils securing top A Level results, showing the breadth and strength of the curriculum.
What makes these achievements even more remarkable is that Queen’s is proudly non-selective, welcoming pupils of all abilities. As a High Performance Learning World Class School, Queen’s proves every day that ability is not fixed. Through expert teaching, personalised support, and a culture that challenges every student to aim high, pupils at Queen’s consistently achieve exceptional outcomes and develop the skills to thrive far beyond the classroom.
Julian Noad, Head of College, praised the achievements:
“These results are a testament to our pupils’ hard work and resilience, and to the dedicated staff who support and challenge them. Statistics alone do not tell the full story of young people who have embraced their Queen’s education and now leave us well prepared ‘for Life’. We are incredibly proud of the academic outcomes, but also of the well-rounded young people they have become.”
Amidst strong overall A Level results, there were a number of exceptional individual stories, a few of which are celebrated here:
YouYou Chin, a boarder from Malaysia, has been part of Queen’s since Prep School and will go on to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds after securing exceptional A Level results of A*AAA. Her academic achievements are complemented by her commitment to the Performing Arts, particularly dance, and her leadership as a senior boarder. A recipient of the Gold Queen’s Diploma, YouYou leaves Queen’s as a role model to younger pupils.
For Francesca Lawrence, a ‘Lifer’ having joined the Queen’s College Nursery at just 6 months old and leaving at the age of 18, this was a proud moment for Queen’s to recognise her A Level results of AAA. As Head of School, she has inspired others through her academic excellence, peer mentoring, and warm leadership. Francesca is currently intending to study Biomedical Engineering at Exeter after taking a gap year to compete in elite-level equestrian events, having recently ridden in her first international competition in July.
Daler Barmenkulov, an international student from Kazakhstan, is going to study Architecture at the University of Reading. A talented artist, Daler’s creative flair was matched by his determination to succeed academically securing an A* in the process, overcoming the challenges of studying in a second language with the help of Queen’s exceptional EAL (English as an Additional Language) provision. His work is regularly showcased in school exhibitions, and he leaves Queen’s with a portfolio full of originality and ambition.
Tim Gausepohl, a Sixth Form boarder from Germany, achieved an A* in his EPQ, entitled ‘To What Extent Can Artificial Intelligence Transform Financial Markets and Asset Price Forecasting?’ a topic directly aligned with his career ambitions in finance and data. Today, he celebrates further outstanding A Level results of A*ABB. Tim also enjoyed a placement at TP ICAP in London, a global leader in data solutions. A keen tennis player, he balanced his studies with his sporting life at Queen’s.
Queen’s College continues to offer a broad and flexible Sixth Form curriculum, combining A Levels with vocational pathways such as BTECs and Level 3 Diplomas, all equivalent to at least one A Level.
Queen’s has a truly global outlook, reflected both in its diverse school community and in its pupils’ onward journeys. This year, the leavers will be studying at prestigious universities across the UK and overseas, including highly regarded institutions in the USA, Netherlands and Germany alongside pursuing other opportunities worldwide. This international mindset is an integral part of what makes Queen’s a World Class School, preparing young people to succeed and lead on a global stage.
Emily Chanter, Head of Sixth Form, said:
“We are immensely proud of every student, not just for the grades they’ve achieved, but for the way they’ve grown as individuals. Sixth Form at Queen’s is about so much more than exams; it’s about developing confident, capable young people ready to make their mark on the world. These results reflect that journey.
One of the most heart-warming things for me this year is seeing every pupil complete the Queen’s Diploma. A programme I’ve been proud to create and drive. Over two years, they have worked hard to earn points by developing skills for life that will stand them in excellent stead for the world of employment. It’s been a privilege to watch them embrace challenges, seize opportunities, and grow into the best versions of themselves.”
Steve Green, Head of Senior School, added:
“Our students’ achievements are the result of a strong partnership between committed staff, engaged families, and a school environment that encourages curiosity, ambition, and kindness. This is a cohort that has excelled academically while contributing richly to school life from the performing arts and music to sport and service. We couldn’t be more proud.”
