British Manufacturing Day – DT pupils visit Numatic

To mark British Manufacturing Day, Queen’s DT pupils enjoyed a fascinating visit to the Numatic factory, the iconic home of the much-loved Henry vacuum cleaner.

The group were given a comprehensive guided tour of the site, gaining a unique insight into the entire production process behind many of Numatic’s products, all proudly manufactured here in Britain. Pupils also attended an engaging presentation on the history and operations of the company, highlighting how innovation and quality remain at the heart of the business.

A real highlight of the day was the chance for pupils to assemble their very own Henry vacuum cleaner. This hands-on challenge was completed under timed conditions and, just to make things interesting, without any instructions! It was a brilliant opportunity for pupils to test their problem-solving skills, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Throughout the visit, pupils were struck by the passion and expertise of the Numatic staff, who were both welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. The experience has not only deepened pupils’ understanding of British design and engineering but has also inspired them to explore future opportunities in the world of manufacturing.
