Queen’s College has been awarded the Bronze AI Quality Mark, recognising the College’s leadership in AI in schools and its responsible approach to artificial intelligence in education across Prep, Senior and Sixth Form.
Awarded by the Good Future Foundation, the AI Quality Mark celebrates schools that are preparing pupils for a future where AI is part of everyday life. Queen’s College is among the early group of UK schools to achieve the award, demonstrating a clear commitment to high-quality AI education and digital leadership.
The independent assessor praised Queen’s College for its confident and well-structured approach to AI in schools, highlighting both strong leadership and meaningful early adoption:
“Queen’s College has put forward a confident picture of where the school is on its AI journey. Leadership is clearly involved, staff are actively experimenting with AI in classrooms, and there is strong guidance in place around assessment, safeguarding and responsible use. With a clear policy and professional development spine now established, the school is well placed to continue developing AI opportunities for pupils.”
A safe and responsible approach to AI in schools
At Queen’s, AI is approached with clarity and care. The College’s focus is on ensuring that AI in schools is used safely, ethically and responsibly, with clear guidance for both staff and pupils.
Strong guardrails are in place around artificial intelligence in education, including data protection, safeguarding, appropriate use in learning and clear expectations around academic integrity. Pupils are guided on when AI can support their work and when it should not be used.
By establishing a secure foundation first, Queen’s is ensuring that the use of AI across the College is consistent, transparent and aligned with its values, while continuing to evolve as the landscape develops.
A clear whole College AI strategy
The assessment praised Queen’s College for its confident early embedding of AI across the school, led by an SLT working group and aligned to the wider digital strategy.
Practical staff guidance has been introduced to support consistent and safe use of AI in the classroom. This includes clear expectations around data protection, safeguarding and appropriate AI tools for education. The result is a shared understanding of how AI in education can be used purposefully across Prep, Senior and Sixth Form.
This strategic approach places Queen’s College firmly among schools leading the conversation around AI in schools in the UK.
AI in teaching, learning and assessment
Teachers across the College are actively exploring how AI can enhance teaching and learning. AI is supporting lesson planning, differentiation and classroom practice, while remaining grounded in strong pedagogical principles.
Assessment has been identified as a particular strength. Queen’s has a clear pupil-facing AI policy, aligned with JCQ guidance, which explains how AI can and cannot be used in assessed work. This clarity helps pupils understand that AI supports learning but does not replace their own thinking.
Building staff confidence in AI
High-quality AI training for teachers underpins the College’s approach. A structured CPD programme includes whole staff training, beginner sessions, practical guidance on using AI to support workload, and a multi-part AI in Action webinar series.
This ensures staff feel confident using AI tools appropriately and modelling best practice for pupils. Alongside this, the College uses data-led monitoring to review AI usage, manage risk and make informed decisions about platforms and costs.
Supporting pupils and families with AI
As part of its commitment to AI education in schools, Queen’s is expanding structured opportunities for pupils beyond Computing, ensuring a consistent experience across year groups.
Sam Chislett, Assistant Head at Queen’s College Prep, who has led the AI strategy across the whole College, commented:
“AI is already shaping the world our pupils are growing up in, and it is our responsibility to address that with clarity and confidence. This has never been about replacing great teaching. It is about equipping pupils with the understanding, judgement and ethical awareness they need to use AI well. Achieving the Bronze AI Quality Mark is a brilliant milestone for Queen’s, and we are excited to continue building on this work together.”
Looking ahead to Silver and Gold AI Quality Mark
Achieving the Bronze AI Quality Mark marks an important milestone in Queen’s College’s AI journey. The College is now working towards Silver and Gold, with plans to deepen cross subject AI education, expand pupil opportunities, strengthen parent guidance and continue evaluating impact.
As AI in schools continues to evolve, Queen’s College remains committed to leading with purpose, ensuring pupils are not only prepared for a future shaped by artificial intelligence, but confident, thoughtful and responsible within it.
