Safer Internet Day was marked across the whole of Queen’s College with a dedicated focus on artificial intelligence and what it means for young people growing up in a rapidly changing digital world.

A whole school collapsed timetable gave pupils from Prep through to Sixth Form the opportunity to explore AI from a range of perspectives. Sessions looked at how AI is used across different industries, the role it is beginning to play in education and, crucially, how it can be used safely and responsibly. Pupils discussed topics such as understanding deep fakes, spotting AI generated content, and recognising how technology can be used as a AiIfor good when approached thoughtfully.

Throughout the day, there was a strong emphasis on critical thinking. Pupils were encouraged to question what they see online, consider issues of reliability and bias, and reflect on the responsibility that comes with powerful new tools. In an ever-changing world, equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence to navigate AI safely is more important than ever.

The day also reflected Queen’s wider commitment to digital leadership. The College has recently been awarded the Bronze AI Quality Mark by the Good Future Foundation, recognising its responsible and forward-thinking approach to artificial intelligence in education. Queen’s is among the early group of UK schools to achieve the award, which celebrates schools preparing pupils for a future where AI is part of everyday life.

Safer Internet Day was not simply about technology. It was about empowering pupils with the awareness, curiosity and discernment they need to use AI wisely, both now and in the years ahead.
