A thrilling start to the season, with the boys producing plenty of moments of brilliance throughout the match. There was some excellent attacking rugby on display, with well-worked tries, impressive passing and some clever footwork creating opportunities and keeping the opposition under pressure. The boys showed great enthusiasm and a willingness to play with freedom and creativity, while also demonstrating good teamwork and support for one another. It was fantastic to see so much energy and excitement on show, providing an excellent platform to build on as the season progresses. Excellent tries from Kento, Harry and Ralph.
U11A Boys Rugby vs West Buckland & Blundell’s by Mr Burlingham
A great start to the season! The boys have been a bit frustrated that they have been unable to do any contact as yet due to the hard ground. However, playing touch rugby has given them a chance to focus on their catch/pass and running skills, which were much in evidence on Wednesday. Our philosophy of keeping our attack ‘green’ (fast & forward) and always having a ‘best mate’ (support player) with the ball carrier is really suiting the squad. As a result, the match saw some great play and lots of ‘whole team’ tries. It’s going to be fast and furious rugby this season!
U11B Boys Rugby vs West Buckland & Blundell’s by Mr Bishop
Our season started with a trip to Blundells. Straight from the first whistle, it was great to see the boys trying to implement what we had focused on in training. Some brilliant green rugby (playing forward) resulted in good territory gain on the pitch. Ian and Isak showed some great understanding of ‘best mate’ running to allow quick offloads after or just before contact. Camille and Jio worked tirelessly in defence to limit attacking opportunities for the opposition. A fantastically positive start to our rugby season, with some great foundations to work on.

What a fantastic Wednesday of hockey! Our Year 5 players headed off to Wellington with huge excitement, while our U11s did a brilliant job hosting both Wellington and King’s at home.
The U11A team started strong against King’s, dominating possession with great teamwork, strong drives, and smart movement. After several close calls, they broke through with a fantastic second-half goal! They carried that confidence into their second match against Wellington, communicating brilliantly to seal a convincing victory. A total team effort! Players player: Elsie Coaches player: All the girls
The U10s – made an excitable start against Wellington, away. Some great individual skills and excellent ball control and tackling. Some work to be done on positions next week!

U12 Boys Rugby at the Millfield Festival by Mr Venning
An energetic start to the rugby term saw the boys demonstrate excellent togetherness, with both old and new students settling into the team and working hard for one another. Thomas K, Noe, Oliver S and Alfie S impressed with some quick sprints and positive attacking runs, while Thomas B, Arthur W and Will S showed strong defensive play and determination in the tackle. Arthur O, Emile and Theo M also demonstrated excellent leadership skills, encouraging those around them and helping to maintain a positive team spirit throughout. Overall, it was a really positive start to the rugby term, with plenty of energy, teamwork and enthusiasm on show, which should leave the boys feeling excited to get back out there and go again.
U12 & U13 Boys Rugby v Sherborne – by Mr Bell
Queen’s was delighted to welcome Sherborne School for our first home rugby fixtures of the season, providing a fantastic afternoon of competition and an opportunity for every boy in Years 7 and 8 to represent the school.
With the recent dry weather leaving pitches too firm for contact rugby, the afternoon provided a brilliant opportunity to adapt, with the boys competing in a series of fast-paced and highly competitive touch matches. The format ensured that every pupil was fully involved, experiencing the excitement of representing Queen’s while developing their skills, confidence and understanding of the game.
Across the afternoon, the energy and enthusiasm were outstanding. The boys demonstrated real determination in both attack and defence, communicating well, supporting one another and showing excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. There were some fantastic examples of individual skill, alongside increasingly intelligent team play as the boys moved the ball into space and identified gaps in the Sherborne defence.
Most pleasing of all was the enjoyment on display. The boys embraced the adapted format, competed with enthusiasm and represented Queen’s with real pride.
It was a superb way to begin our home rugby programme and a great example of our commitment to providing meaningful competitive sporting opportunities for every Queenian.

U13A Girls Hockey Vs Kings By Jack Knight
A spirited performance from Queen’s despite a 5–2 defeat. After a difficult first half, the team showed great character to come out much stronger after the break, scoring twice and creating plenty of positive moments.
There was plenty of development and potential within the group was clear to see. Plenty of positives to build on throughout the season.
U15A Girl’s Hockey Vs Exeter- By Liz Halls
The U15A girls faced a competitive and well-drilled Exeter side, featuring some very strong players. The team worked incredibly hard in defence throughout the match, showing determination and resilience to limit the number of goals conceded.
At times, we looked threatening in the attacking half and created some promising opportunities. A particular highlight came towards the end of the first half when Willow finished brilliantly to score a well-deserved goal, lifting the spirits of the whole team.
A special mention and huge thanks must go to Charlotte, Mabel and Juno, who showed fantastic commitment by playing for the 1st Team before joining us for the U15A match.
Well done to all the girls for their effort, teamwork and determination.
1st XI Girl’s Hockey Vs Exeter – By Jack Knight
Queen’s fell to Exeter in their season opener, but the performance after halftime showed real progress. Exeter’s early press overwhelmed Queen’s, leading to quick goals and a difficult first period.
The second half was a different story. Queen’s tightened their defensive shape, communicated better, and focused on outletting from defence. With clearer passing options and calmer transitions, they broke Exeter’s press more often and built more controlled phases of play.
It wasn’t enough to change the score, but it absolutely changed the direction of the match. The improved structure and confidence in possession give Queen’s something solid to build on for the weeks ahead.
