Prep Boys’ House Rugby by Mr Venning

The House matches were hotly contested, with plenty to play for and the passion, determination and desire to win evident throughout. Every team battled hard, showing great commitment and competitive spirit from the first whistle to the last. With the results finely balanced, it was Blackdowns who ultimately emerged as deserved winners. Congratulations to all involved for an excellent display of House spirit and sporting endeavour!

U11B Football vs St George’s Primary School by Mr Venning

A great afternoon of football for our children as we welcomed a local primary school for some friendly fixtures. It was an excellent opportunity for those who regularly attend football practice to put their developing skills into action in a team environment, building confidence, teamwork and match experience.

The children showed great enthusiasm throughout the afternoon, demonstrating some excellent individual skills and working hard for one another as a team. It was particularly pleasing to see them applying techniques practised during their weekly sessions in a competitive setting. These fixtures provide valuable opportunities for players to develop their understanding of the game, learn from match situations and grow in confidence. A big well done to all the children who took part, and thank you to our visitors for joining us for an enjoyable afternoon of football!

U12 Football vs Exeter City FC Development Centre by Mr Venning

An excellent evening of football, bringing together children from across both the Prep and Senior Schools for a fantastic opportunity to compete against high-level opposition. This exciting link with Exeter City FC continues to provide valuable opportunities for our players to challenge themselves, develop their skills and learn from a different level of competition. Vincent led from the front, producing several skilful runs and scoring a number of superb goals, while Jonah and Isaac linked up brilliantly, demonstrating intelligent movement and an excellent understanding of one another’s play. In midfield, Albie, Ralph and Anil worked tirelessly, battling hard, competing for possession and helping to drive the team forward. It was another hugely valuable experience for our players, showcasing the talent across both schools and highlighting the exciting opportunities available as we continue to develop our football pathway at Queen’s.

U13 Rugby: Queen’s vs. King’s – By Mr Bell

With the rugby pitches still very much in need of some rain, Queen’s and King’s took the opportunity to enjoy a valuable afternoon of rugby development in a coached-style fixture, focusing on structure, decision-making and teamwork.

The first half was played using grab tackles, allowing both teams to develop their attacking shape, passing accuracy and defensive organisation. As the game progressed, the second half introduced 1v1 clear-outs, ball protection and uncontested scrums, providing further opportunities for players to develop their understanding of the game in a controlled environment.

For Queen’s, Tiago and Esteban linked up particularly well, combining some excellent passing and intelligent running lines to break through the King’s defence. Alex worked tirelessly throughout, showing tremendous determination and defensive awareness to prevent the King’s wingers from finding space out wide.

However, it was George’s combination of power, pace and agility that provided one of the standout moments of the afternoon. His exceptional individual try demonstrated great strength and determination, bringing Queen’s level at 2–2 and ensuring the match finished honours even.

While the final score reflected a closely contested encounter, the real success was the opportunity for both teams to develop their skills, improve decision-making and gain valuable match experience despite the challenging ground conditions.

A thoroughly worthwhile afternoon of rugby, with plenty of positives to take into the next fixture!

Prep House Biathlon Mrs L Gardner

What a wonderful afternoon! There was plenty of House competitiveness and fantastic community spirit on display across the Prep School. Every child was involved in this year’s Biathlon, and huge congratulations go to everyone for showing such resilience and determination, especially when things got tough.

It is an event that truly brings out the best in our pupils—whether they are battling it out on the field and in the pool, or cheering on a friend, peer, or fellow House member. All the points are currently being tallied, but well done to everyone on a fantastic afternoon!

Prep Hockey House Matches – Yr 5 and 6 Mrs L Gardner

On Wednesday, our Prep pupils took part in their House Hockey matches. Each House was led by an allocated a leadership  team responsible for organising positions, leading warm-ups, and acting as chief cheerleaders! The girls performed brilliantly in these roles, supporting one another to get their House teams organised. As always, the matches were closely fought, and it was fantastic to see the marked progress in everyone’s skill level and confidence since the start of the year! Well done to all who participated—results will be revealed during the final assembly of term.

Super Saturday Senior House Padel – Sat 17 October

Padel was introduced to House Sport on Super Saturday, bringing an exciting new dimension to the competition. This inaugural event was exclusively for seniors, with the intention of opening up opportunities for all year groups to battle for valuable House points at our new in-house Smash Padel venue. Each House was invited to put forward its top two pairings for a round-robin competition, alongside a further four to six players to encourage wider participation through a team Americano.

The A and B competitions produced high-stakes 15-minute battles, with both round robins concluding perfectly as the top two pairs faced each other for the title and the remaining pairs contested for 3rd and 4th. The A competition finished with Barnicott beating Ray for top spot, and French beat Woolmer for top spot in the Bs. Meanwhile, the team Americanos ensured that 32 players enjoyed court time, showcasing their skills, teamwork and competitive spirit. It was Woolmer and Ray who dominated in the Team Americanos to boost their overall standings. Indeed the A pairing title was worth the most points, but the table was turned given the points available for B team event and the rewards in putting forward more players for Team Americanos. Thus the overall standings finished with French in fourth place, Barnicott in third, Ray came second and our Inaugural Senior House Padel winners were Woolmer. Congratulations to everyone who took part and gave padel such a promising debut as an exciting addition to House Sport.
