Evening Porter/Caretaker (x2)

Queen’s College is seeking two reliable and proactive Evening Porter/Caretakers to join our friendly team. Working from 5.30pm to 10.30pm, you will play an important role in ensuring our College remains safe, welcoming, and well-prepared for the wide range of activities and events that take place each day.
The two successful candidates are needed to share the evening duties so to cover 7 days a week during term time from 5.30-10.30pm
In this varied and hands-on role, you will support staff across the College site, helping to create the best possible environment for our students and wider Queen’s community. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to go the extra mile are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Work independently, using initiative to manage and complete tasks efficiently
- Prioritise daily workloads to ensure all duties are completed on time
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both in person and via email
- Conduct security checks during late shifts to ensure buildings and the perimeter are secure
- Lift, move, and set up furniture or equipment for events, room changes, and refurbishments
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks
- Distribute internal mail, parcels, and temporary signage
- Assist with the unloading of large deliveries
- Support colleagues with heavier cleaning duties, including floor scrubbing/polishing and moving furniture as needed
- Respond promptly to accidental spillages
Requirements
- A valid UK driving licence is essential
- A practical, adaptable approach with the ability to work confidently on your own
- Good communication skills and a high level of reliability
