U11A Boys V King’s College Prep by Mr Venning

A thrilling game of cricket with plenty of positives to take away. We started superbly, with Jonah striking twice in the opening over to put the opposition immediately under pressure. Despite the strong start, we struggled at times to maintain consistent line and length, conceding a number of extras which allowed the batting side to build momentum and post an imposing total.

In response, the team showed tremendous character and determination, working hard throughout the chase and falling short by only a handful of runs in what proved to be an incredible contest. The batting display was outstanding, with the players showcasing a range of fine cricket shots and growing confidence at the crease. Most importantly, it was a fun match played in great spirit and another valuable experience for the team.

Run outs, catches and bails flying. Four’s and backing up for quick singles. All of which meant wickets and runs a-plenty! Sunshine and a tropical downpour. Impressive cricket skills (but more importantly some excellent progress being shown) and 4 runs the margin at the end! Not a bad 2 hours of entertainment for the crowd! Played in a great spirit and with super encouragement and positivity among the Queen’s boys, who deserved the win by the slimmest of margins.

Well done boys. Great progress and great fun.

U10A Girls V Blundells (Away) Mrs Gardner

Match Report: U10A v Blundell’s

The girls were put into bat first and faced some accurate bowling from the start. The weather proved challenging, with the wind catching the ball and making it unpredictable and difficult to hit. While we struggled to gain momentum and only reached the boundary a couple of times, we managed to build our total through a good number of extras.

When we moved into the field, our bowling was more consistent than our opposition’s, which was very encouraging. However, this consistency allowed them more opportunities to hit the ball, resulting in a number of boundaries. It was great to see the girls attacking the ball when fielding, and some excellent backing up helped keep the final score down.

U10B Girls V Blundell’s by Mrs Czeres

Despite battling challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and sudden downpours, the U10B Girls delivered a stellar performance in a spirited cricket match against Blundell’s. The game was defined by a friendly and supportive atmosphere, with both teams encouraging one another throughout an incredibly evenly matched afternoon of sport.

The dynamic duo of Frankie and Meyline headlined the batting display. The pair found the boundary with remarkable consistency, clocking up an impressive nine 4s during their time at the crease. Their teamwork and communication set a fantastic tone for the Queen’s innings.

On the field, the bowling attack showed great focus. Elsie and Frankie were standout performers, while Emily provided a crucial breakthrough by bowling a clinical wicket. The defensive effort was further bolstered by Frankie, who showcased exceptional awareness by running in to secure a run-out at the bowler’s end.

The final score confirmed a victory for Queen’s, who clinched the win by a narrow margin of just three runs. Beyond the scoreline, the true highlight of the afternoon was the camaraderie displayed during match tea. The girls from both schools exemplified great sportsmanship and laughter, proving that the bond between the players was just as important as the result on the pitch. Well done to all the girls for a fantastic win and for representing the school with such kindness and teamwork!

Mrs Gardner

Mrs G’s team bowled well with a good demonstration of how to keep your arm straight – we lacked a little length at times, but Sarah and Haitham in particular showed consistency. In bat, Emmy and Olivia ran well between the wickets, communicating brilliantly.

Mr Venning

A thoroughly enjoyable game saw our team excel in all departments. Fielding was exceptionally well organised, cutting off runs and maintaining pressure throughout. The bowlers were efficient, keeping a tight line and length and making every over count. With the bat, we scored quickly, finding gaps all around the field and keeping the scoreboard ticking. A high-energy performance all round, making for a truly great day of cricket!

Mr Matthews

The U9/8 team played brilliantly this week, showing excellent commitment in the field and superb communication whilst batting, exactly as we had asked. Sharp fielding helped limit the opposition’s score, before some confident batting performances saw numerous boundaries scored, including straight drives, big 6s and even a few impressive reverse sweeps. Most pleasing of all was the way the children played with real respect, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout, well done to everyone involved.

Mrs Gent

Mrs Gent’s team bowled extremely well and improved their accuracy as the match progressed. The team demonstrated some excellent fielding, and they were always on their toes, ready to move! Lucy and Elisa produced some excellent shots when batting, and the whole team made some good runs. They all thoroughly enjoyed the morning and should be proud of their performance! Well done!

Senior School

U12A Cricket Vs Wells By Mr Knight

Queens College Taunton U12 produced a spirited performance despite falling to a narrow two-wicket defeat against Wells Cathedral School U12 in Saturday’s friendly fixture. After electing to bat, Queens found runs hard to come by against some disciplined bowling and were dismissed for 47 in 11.2 overs. Slottje-Pick top-scored with 9, while extras contributed heavily to the total.

Defending a modest target, Queens responded brilliantly with the ball and pushed Wells all the way. Luca Slottje-Pick starred with an outstanding spell of 5 wickets from four overs, ripping through the Wells batting line-up and giving Queens a real chance of victory. Shire, Green and Williams also chipped in with wickets as Wells slipped to 44-8. However, the hosts managed to scramble over the line at 48-8 in the final over, leaving Queens to reflect on a determined and highly competitive display in the field.

U13A Girls v Millfield by Mr Smith

The U13A girls travelled to Millfield on a very blustery Wednesday to play a 12 over 8-a-side hardball match. Queen’s batted first and managed to post a competitive total of 78 for 6 after their allotted overs with Juno top scoring on 29 and Sophia making 8 not out. Running between the wickets for quick singles was again a strength of the team but there were a few too many dot balls, with batters playing and missing a little too often.

Nevertheless, the Queen’s girls were hopeful of defending their total but Millfield got off to a quick start although Ria and Juno managed to remove both openers, reducing their opponents to 34 for 2 in the 5th over. The score moved to 64 when Jemima managed to get two wickets in two balls – one bowled and one stumped by Eleanor – making things a little more interesting. Unfortunately, the hat-trick ball was a wide and Millfield steadied the ship. They moved to 77 – needing two to win – when Lottie clean bowled another Millfield batter. The score was now 77 for 5 and Queen’s needed two wickets for victory, Millfield needed two runs. Alas, it was not to be. The batters managed to scramble a bye then a single to secure a victory for our opponents. However, this was another step forward in the girls’ development. Working on maximising scoring opportunities and being a little braver to go for catching opportunities when they are available needs to be a focus in training next time.
