After a busy half term including the Summer Concert, two major productions not to mention coursework for GCSE and A level, you might be forgiven for thinking the Informal Concert at the end of such a hive of activity to be a quiet affair. But in fact it was one of the largest of the year, with some fabulous individual performances.
The concert opened with one of our rising musical theatre stars, Phillip, giving a super rendition of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’; we then moved on to Cora, who took us to the Baroque with a skilled performance of a Gigue by Corelli. Agne was our next vocalist; her first concert appearance as a singer but you wouldn’t have been able to tell from her confident and beautiful rendition of ‘Once Upon A December’. Munesu changed the mood with a rhythmic rendition of the classic ‘Respect’ before we had the first of our songs from our recent production of ‘The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe’ with Freya performing ‘Wages Of Sin’ with great smoothness and just a hint of the sinister! This was followed by the other White Witch from the show, Ellie who performed ‘I Will Prevail’ with energy and panache. Mary-Tess took us to the US with a reflective and subtle performance of ‘Andante’ by Burleigh, followed by Sam taking us to Russia with the lively and rustic Gopak by Mussorgsky. Amelia’s performance of ‘Somewhere’ from ‘West Side Story’ was rich and sonorous and then Ellie rounded off the instrumental element of the concert with a poised performance of the third movement from Haydn’s Violin Concerto in G major. To round off the concert, Jack gave us a flamboyant and highly entertaining performance of ‘All I Care About Is Love’ from ‘Chicago’.
This was one of the most varied concerts of the year. Many congratulations to all the performers on treating us to such a brilliant concert. A fitting end to a successful half of term.
