On Thursday morning, Queen’s College Prep and Senior pupils gathered at Temple Methodist Church to honour the founders of the school. Founders’ Day is a cherished tradition that celebrates the history and values of Queen’s, bringing everyone together in a shared sense of community. The day serves as a reminder of the school’s foundation, which began 180 years ago, and the ideals that have shaped the School since.
The story of Queen’s is deeply embedded in its motto, “non scholae sed vitae discimus”—”we learn not for school but for life”. This motto reflects the founders’ vision of a Christian ethos, one that promotes a life of service and enrichment for others. Today, Queen’s continues to uphold these values, equipping its students with the knowledge and character to lead fulfilling lives that benefit the wider community. The school’s four Senior houses—Barnicott, French, Ray, and Woolmer—are named in honour of the key founders who helped establish this legacy.
In the afternoon, the school community came together once again for a sponsored walk in support of Edukid, a charity that provides education to children in Cambodia. Pupils participated with great enthusiasm, with the youngest Minis completing a 2km circuit of the school grounds, while Senior School pupils, including some seasoned runners, covered distances equivalent to a half marathon.
This year’s walk was not only a celebration of the current school community but also a powerful reminder of the importance of serving the world beyond. All funds raised will go directly to Edukid, helping to bring the gift of education to children in need.
There is still time to support the sponsored walk if you would like to, donate visit our JustGiving page.
