Prep School

At the end of last week, the Year 5 girls, U11C team, and Year 5 and 6 boys faced strong competition from Exeter School. The girls travelled away and found themselves up against well-drilled teams, many of whom featured experienced club players. Although it was a challenging match, the Queen’s girls showed tremendous resilience, teamwork, and determination throughout.

The U11A and B rugby teams also faced tough Exeter sides, but the B team in particular delivered a thrilling display of rugby. The boys demonstrated outstanding unity and played with immense togetherness, battling through the match with determination.

On Wednesday, the boys competed against Perrott Hill. The U11A squad put on a superb performance, effectively applying the concept of passing before contact that they had practised during the week. Their continued progress has been fantastic to see—well done, boys!

The U10 boys also displayed promising moments of play. The team was strong in attack but will continue to focus on strengthening their defence in future matches.

U11 Hockey Festival – 30th Anniversary Edition

On Saturday, 28th September, Queen’s proudly hosted its 30th U11 Hockey Festival, welcoming 16 teams from across the region for a fantastic day of competitive and developmental hockey. This year’s addition of B teams further enhanced the spirit of the event, creating an atmosphere that was both positive and highly competitive, with plenty of spectators on hand to cheer on the young players.

With matches held across two pitches, the festival provided the perfect stage for Queen’s to showcase their growing hockey talents. The event, designed to encourage skill development while maintaining a competitive edge, saw Queen’s U11 teams deliver strong performances throughout the day. The quick-fire, one-half format kept the pace exciting, ensuring plenty of fast-paced hockey action.

In both the Cup and Trophy competitions, Queen’s teams battled hard, showing improvement with every match. Their efforts throughout the morning resulted in a series of victories, hard-fought draws, and only one loss. The players displayed excellent teamwork and resilience, making the school proud.

The festival offered a valuable opportunity for young players to hone their skills and gain match experience in a supportive environment. The 30th anniversary of this event was a memorable one, celebrating not only competitive hockey but also the continued development of the sport at this level. A wonderful day for all involved!

Rugby

A very impressive display from the U12 boys against their Perrott Hill counterparts on Wednesday resulted in a comfortable victory. From the very first whistle, the entire team ran at their opponents with great purpose and determination, offloading out of the tackle to keep the ball alive and rucking effectively to win the ball on the ground. Their tackling was ferocious and committed, regularly turning defence into attack and they scored some spectacular tries. If they keep working hard and build on this performance, they should have a very successful season.

The U13 boys welcomed Perrott Hill on Wednesday in what proved to be an exciting match with free-flowing rugby and ferocious tackling on display. It was Perrott Hill who scored first and proved difficult to stop with their fast hands and attacking play out wide. Queen’s defence was solid and this put pressure on their opposition. The Queen’s boys persevered in attack but a well-organised Perrott Hill defence meant they struggled to break through. A brave effort from all but it was PerrottHill who came out on top this time.

Queen’s got off to a great start in their match against Sidcot U14s. Powerful running by captain Max, who brushed off several tacklers on his way to the line, led to him scoring two early tries. However, Sidcot then got back into the game and proved very difficult to stop despite Max’s efforts once again, this time in defence, where he made four tackles in a row at one point! The Queen’s boys ran strongly and made ground which resulted in two more tries through Ptolemy and Kirk but the final score was 32-20 to Sidcot. The boys reflected well after the game on what they now need to improve upon.

On Thursday the 1st Rugby Team had a fantastic win against Sidot, 25 boys stepped foot on the field and contributed to the win!
