Prep School
Nearly the entire Upper Prep School was involved in the House Biathlon last Friday. The commitment shown by so many pupils, both in the pool and during the run, was truly commendable. With favourable weather and enthusiastic support from parents, the atmosphere throughout the event was electric. The energy in the pool was especially exciting, as pupils cheered each other on—regardless of House affiliation. It was one of those moments that made the staff beam with pride, seeing the camaraderie and determination on display. The winners and House champions will be announced at the end of term.
Wednesday brought a dramatic shift in weather, but the girls faced both the rain and King’s College with determination. The pitches were so wet at times, the ball struggled to travel any distance! Despite the conditions, the U11B and C teams combined to form Gold and Black teams, delivering a set of wonderful and evenly matched games, both against each other and King’s. Special mention goes to Olivia for stepping in as goalkeeper, and to Alyssa and Ava for their impressive performances.
The U11A team also had a closely contested match. With several changes to the lineup, the girls worked hard to pass the ball effectively in the second half. King’s had some dominant, technical players, but Queen’s did well to limit their time in possession and put pressure on their passing. Ruby showed great determination in defence, demonstrating significant progress this term. Megan, Amalie, and Elizabeth made their debuts for the A team, working hard throughout, while Gracie made a strong effort in the second half, applying the coaching advice she received.
The U10s, equally drenched during their away match, showed perseverance despite missing a few players. They worked hard to make tackles and regain possession, with good phases of attacking play. Moving forward, the focus will be on scanning the area before passing or carrying the ball to improve decision-making on the field.
On the rugby field, Queen’s hosted Stover School in a series of exciting matches. The U10A team delivered some well-worked tries, and last-minute defending helped protect a narrow lead. It was encouraging to see the boys improving their breakdown play, securing possession through effective rucking.
The U11/10B team showcased their intent and determination, running with purpose and tackling fiercely. Despite Stover’s quick ball movement and attempts to push Queen’s on the back foot, a series of outstanding tries from Rocco, Luca, Josh, Jahmae, Marius, and Sonny saw Queen’s capitalise on the situation, delivering a dominant performance.
Senior School
1st XI
Queen’s 1st XI faced a challenging test against Plymouth College. Plymouth’s team featured strong, skillful players, presenting a unique challenge for Queen’s. Bahiya did an excellent job of marking one of Plymouth’s key players out of the game, and our forwards positioned themselves well to score. Though the match was tough, Queen’s remains focused on learning and development for future games.
U13A
It was a fantastic outing for the U13A girls! From the warm-up, they looked sharp, moving and striking the ball with precision. Once the match began, they played at their very best, showing high intensity, great communication, and swift ball movement across the pitch. While they lacked a bit of composure on the ball in the first half—missing a few near-goal opportunities—they still led 3-0 at halftime.
After a quick halftime discussion, the girls settled down and played with more composure in the second half. Mabel and Willow both scored impressive deflection goals, bringing the lead to 5-1. Juno sealed the game with a stunning shot from the top of the D, making the final score 6-1. Juno was deservedly named Player of the Match for her excellent performance in midfield.
U13B
The U13B team hosted an exciting and evenly-matched encounter with Plymouth U13B on Saturday. The game featured plenty of D entries, thanks to strong defensive blocks and standout performances from both goalkeepers. Sophia and Cora excelled on the wings, eliminating players and creating chances. Despite positioning well on the post, it was Plymouth who managed to convert and take the win, with the match finishing 1-0. The team showed great effort and resilience, with plenty of competitive spirit and tired legs to show for it.
