U15 vs. Downside

On a misty Saturday afternoon, the Queen’s U15 rugby team travelled to face Downside in what would become a memorable away match. Despite Downside scoring first with an early try, Queen’s rallied with impressive skill and unity, ultimately claiming a decisive victory.

Joe, the scrum-half, controlled the game with his deft passing, an outstanding 90% conversion rate, and a perfectly executed cross-field kick that led to a driving try as Queen’s players ran onto the bounce. Joe’s vision and accuracy repeatedly opened up the field, putting Downside on the defensive.

The standout Player of the Match was James, who combined offensive flair with rock-solid defence. His game sense was unmatched, and his tackles were relentless. Time after time, James spotted openings in Downside’s attacks, quickly closing in to bring players down with textbook tackles. Beyond simply halting play, James displayed an almost instinctive ability to time his tackles so well that he could rip the ball from Downside players, turning defence into immediate counter-attacks. His awareness and tenacity turned several dangerous plays in Queen’s favour and ignited the team’s momentum.

Kamto, with his powerful, aggressive runs, created space down the wings, keeping Downside on edge as he relentlessly drove forward. Defensively, Atticus and Leyton were fearless, throwing themselves into tackles without hesitation and putting their bodies on the line to stop Downside’s advances.

Queen’s sealed the game with a commanding score of 50-10, an emphatic statement of their skill, resilience, and teamwork. It was a performance to remember, with each player contributing to a superb all-around victory.

1st XV Rugby v Downside School

The 1st XV travelled to Downside School on Saturday. In an impressive setting, the boys delivered an equally impressive performance. Solid at the breakdown and relentless in defence, Queen’s scored first and maintained their lead for the remainder of the match.

Physical ball-carrying from Spencer, Tim, and Henry allowed Queen’s to make significant inroads into the opposition line. Jonny dominated the line-out, both in attack and defence, stealing several throws. Andre made several powerful tackles to keep the Downside attack at bay, while Ollie’s pace on the wing proved too much for the opposition. The final score was 36-10 to Queen’s.

Hockey

1st XI v Exeter School

The 1st XI faced a strong challenge from Exeter School on Friday night. The team defended with grit and passion in the D, with Izzy making several key blocking challenges and Tash producing some excellent saves in goal.

It was a highly promising performance, with the girls working tirelessly and demonstrating that a strong defence is a key foundation for success.

U15A vs Exeter School

On Saturday, the Queen’s College U15A team faced a challenging match against Exeter School, demonstrating impressive resilience and determination throughout. Despite a tough defensive setup from Exeter, which made it difficult for Queen’s to enter the shooting circle, the team displayed great teamwork and fought hard until the final whistle.

Izzy was particularly standout, using the adversity to fuel her explosive sprints to the ball. Although a few players were feeling unwell, they pushed through with excellent effort and commitment.

A special thank you to Evvi, who joined the team to support despite being injured, offering valuable input on subs and coaching. There was great play from Maka, who ran relentlessly down the line, Mary-Tess for her intelligent movement into space, and Emily for her big tackles, which created space and momentum for the team.

U13A vs Perrott Hill

Perrott Hill capitalised with a goal, placing the ball into the bottom corner from the top of the D. They then extended their lead to 2-0 after a long pass to their centre forward, who finished with another well-placed shot.

Despite the early setbacks, Queen’s refused to back down and entered halftime trailing 2-1. In the second half, the team showed remarkable spirit and determination, working hard across the pitch and communicating effectively. This strong resolve paid off, as Queen’s mounted a comeback to win 3-2.
