Last week, Queen’s brought magic to life with a spectacular sell-out production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The four performances drew a combined audience of over 2,000 people, captivating attendees of all ages and establishing itself as a highlight of the school’s performing arts calendar.
The dual-cast production featured students from Years 7 to 13, who delivered outstanding performances, bringing the next chapter of the beloved Harry Potter saga to the stage. Set 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, the play delves into the challenges faced by Harry Potter and his friends as they navigate parenthood while confronting new, unforeseen dangers.
This ambitious production transported the audience across 47 scenes using cutting-edge projection. The immersive experience was heightened by an intelligent lighting rig with 180 lighting cues, stunning onstage pyrotechnics, hand-held effects and bursts of fireworks over the audience.
The pupils embraced every aspect of the production, from mastering their roles to navigating the complexities of the technical elements. Princess, who played Dolores Umbridge, shared, “Working with the cast has been a highly creative and fun experience.” Similarly, Charlie, who took on the role of Karl Jenkins, reflected, “Seeing the set for Harry Potter come to life has been such an immersive experience.”
The County Gazette were in the audience among many other VIPs, they said “My expectations were met and surpassed with the secondary students clearly poured their heart and souls into their performances… Overall, I thought this show was truly magical.”
The result was a truly unforgettable theatrical spectacle. From the intricate storytelling to the awe-inspiring special effects, every detail came together to leave the audience spellbound.
