Last weekend was full of action in the Outdoor Education department, with Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE training.
Year 9 Bronze were on the Quantocks on Saturday morning to work on their navigation skills. Despite some tough conditions and freezing temperatures with snow on the ground, the group were brilliant! They each had a go at leading the team with the focus on map orientation and interpreting contour lines.
Conditions were marginally better on Sunday for the Year 11 DofE students, who had a full day walk on the Quantocks. They walked an 18 kilometre route which visited some of the less well-trodden combes of the western Quantocks. Navigation remains a key focus with this group but significant progress was made in preparation for their Practice Expedition at the end of the term.
The Year 12 Gold DofE Canoeing Group completed their whitewater training on the River Dart. Conditions were equally cold but they were treated to stunning blue skies and perfect river levels. There was a number of swims but everyone coped well with the steep learning curve and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
It was great to see so much positivity and so many smiling faces over the entire weekend despite the tough conditions. A massive well done to everyone involved.
