Unfortunately, due to poor weather this week, not many games went ahead. However, we did have an OQ star return to talk to our year 7 students!
U8 & U9 Mixed Cricket vs Taunton School – by Mr Venning
Our cricket team produced an excellent all-round performance in a match that was great fun to be a part of.
We began by bowling superbly, consistently selecting the right line and length and showing impressive accuracy throughout the innings. This made scoring difficult for the opposition and helped us take control of the game. Our communication in the field was outstanding, with players constantly supporting one another and working together to stop numerous extra runs. A standout moment came from Frida, who showed excellent awareness and determination by stopping the ball, returning it quickly to the stumps, and helping secure a brilliant run out.
When it was our turn to bat, we continued our strong performance by choosing the right shots to play and running positively between the wickets. As a result, we scored plenty of runs and kept the scoreboard moving throughout the innings. Overall, it was a fantastic team effort, with every player contributing to a memorable performance. We thoroughly enjoyed the match and are already looking forward to going again on Monday.
England U18 OQ Star Returns to Inspire Year 7
Year 7 students were treated to a special visit this week as Queen’s College alumnus Caspar Reeves returned to school to share his journey from QC pupil to elite rugby player.
Caspar, named Player of the Match for Bristol Bears in NextGen League Final and recently capped by England U18s, delivered an inspiring and honest insight into life as a young professional athlete. Speaking passionately about his experiences, he highlighted the importance of hard work, resilience, determination, and embracing feedback as the foundations of success.
Students were eager to learn more about the realities of elite sport, asking questions about balancing school work with training, coping with pressure, and preparing mentally for big matches. Caspar’s message was clear: success comes from consistent effort, staying grounded, and never losing sight of your goals.
To mark his visit, Caspar generously donated one of his England shirts to the College. It will take pride of place in the gym alongside memorabilia celebrating former Queen’s students who have gone on to achieve sporting excellence.
Caspar’s return was a powerful reminder of what is possible for our students. His journey from the Queen’s playing fields to representing England demonstrates where ambition, commitment, and perseverance can lead. With a bright future ahead, we are incredibly proud of his achievements and grateful that he continues to champion his QC roots.
