Queen’s College is delighted to announce a new partnership with Somerstage, one of the South West’s leading musical theatre and performing arts organisations.
As part of its continued growth, Somerstage is expanding into Taunton, with Queen’s College selected as the venue for its new programme of weekly classes. The partnership reflects both the organisation’s ambition to reach more young performers across Somerset and the strength of Queen’s College’s performing arts facilities and provision.
Founded seven years ago, Somerstage has earned a reputation for delivering exceptional training in singing, acting and dance, helping young performers develop confidence, creativity and technical skill. Its teaching team includes experienced industry professionals with credits in major productions including Mamma Mia!, Spamalot and Jersey Boys, while many former students have gone on to secure professional opportunities in theatre, film, television and commercial work.

As demand for its programmes continues to grow, Somerstage has chosen Queen’s College as the base for its expansion into Taunton.

Incoming Assistant Head, Claire Davies, who will have responsibility for Performing Arts at Queen’s College from January, described the partnership as an exciting opportunity for both the College and the wider community.
“We are delighted to welcome Somerstage to Queen’s College. Performing arts play a vital role in helping young people build confidence, develop communication skills and express themselves creatively. This partnership strengthens the opportunities available both to pupils and to young people from across the region.”
“Having a respected organisation such as Somerstage choose Queen’s College as the venue for its expansion is a wonderful endorsement of it’s facilities and their commitment to the performing arts.”
Lisa Bonser, Somerstage Principal, added:
“With an ever growing demand for places, Somerstage has been looking for the right venue to expand for some time. When we were presented with the opportunity to work with Queens in Taunton, we knew it was the perfect fit. With outstanding facilities and an incredible theatre, Queen’s aligns perfectly with our commitment to industry-level training. This partnership gives our students the opportunity to develop their skills in a prestigious environment, gaining invaluable experience for successful careers in the performing arts.”

The partnership builds on Queen’s College’s long standing reputation for excellence in the arts. Through productions, concerts, drama performances and enrichment opportunities, pupils are encouraged to develop their talents, embrace new challenges and perform with confidence.

Somerstage’s arrival will further strengthen the performing arts opportunities available in Taunton, providing weekly access to industry led training in a supportive and ambitious environment.
Somerstage also benefits from an exclusive working relationship with Bijou Talent, helping young performers access professional pathways and opportunities within the industry. This partnership forms part of the wider Somerstage programme and reflects the organisation’s strong links with the performing arts industry.
