Nursery
It’s been a busy and exciting week in the Nursery as the children have made the most of the lovely sunny weather.
In Cottontails, the focus has been on farm animals, inspired by their book of the week Spot Goes to the Farm. The children have enjoyed exploring a themed sensory tray, learning the names of different animals and the sounds they make through songs, stories, and small world play. They’ve also had a wonderful time having picnics in the garden and making the most of free-flow play between the indoor and outdoor environments, building confidence and independence as they move between spaces.
In Puddleducks, the story Whatever Next sparked curiosity and conversations about space and travel. The children have been learning about different modes of transport, using a variety of vehicles to explore textures through painting, shaving foam, and other sensory materials. Water play has also been a big hit this week, providing opportunities for collaborative play, exploration, and cooling off in the sunshine. To round off their busy days, the children have been enjoying picnic-style teas in the garden with their friends.
Minis
The children have been diving into some exciting new lessons this term, including woodwork and gardening, as well as team games in addition to PE. They also had the pleasure of welcoming some visitors who spoke to the Queen’s Minis about being dentists. The children explored the differences between healthy and unhealthy foods and drinks, and matched pictures to either a ‘good tooth’ or a ‘bad tooth.’
They learnt how to brush their teeth properly and each received a goody bag, complete with a two-minute timer! The fun continued as the children dressed up as dentists and role-played with their friends.
The children also enjoyed their first phonics session with Mrs Chislett, one of the Reception teachers, and spent some time exploring the Reception classroom a wonderful opportunity to start becoming familiar with their next steps of learning.
The sunshine has provided lots of opportunities for outdoor learning. During the outdoor education sessions, we explored wildflowers and enjoyed getting started on developing our garden allotment area. The children began organising seeds and compost, building on the ideas from last week’s design sessions.
