Nursery
This week, the Cottontails have been immersed in the story Dear Zoo, bringing the book to life through a range of zoo-themed activities. From animal printing to exploring sounds with musical instruments, the children delighted in recreating the lively animals from the story. They also enjoyed autumn-inspired playdough sessions, using natural materials to shape and mould their own creations.
Meanwhile, in Puddleducks, the focus has been on colour and light. The children experimented with torches, creating shadows and casting vibrant displays on the walls by shining light through different filters. They even set up a pretend “campfire,” gathering around to “toast marshmallows” and enjoy the cosy, imaginative atmosphere.
Minis
The Queen’s Minis returned from the half-term break brimming with energy and excitement! This week’s focus has been on exploring vibrant colours, inspired by the celebrations of Firework Night and Diwali.
The classroom has been alive with creativity as children engaged in a party-themed role play, complete with invitations, balloons, and festive decorations that sparked their imaginations and developed social skills. A variety of colourful activities provided hands-on opportunities for exploration and discovery.
The focus book, Wow Said the Owl, enriched the week’s colour theme and encouraged children to connect with their previous learning about nocturnal animals. Outdoor education sessions saw children adding to the impressive bug hotel on Hutton Lawn, creating safe spaces for insects as the colder months set in.
In ballet their ballet lesson, the children translated the bursts of colour from fireworks into graceful movement, while PE focused on developing balance and coordination in fun, engaging ways.
