Queen’s College, Taunton, is delighted to introduce its brand-new netball kit, marking a significant step forward in how we support and celebrate our students in sport. This exciting development reflects our commitment to inclusivity, teamwork, and student recognition, made possible through the generous sponsorship of My Day.
How do you create meaningful change in school sports? You listen to your students.
Traditionally, the school’s performance netball kit, like those of many other schools, has always been exclusively worn by the 1st team. Reflecting on our recent student voice feedback, a collection of all sports captains meeting with me (Director of Sport) at various lunchtimes in The Wyvern Roost (our brilliant onsite coffee shop) over hot chocolate and flapjacks to discuss every aspect of sporting change. Ranging from match teas, training models, and kit feedback, to the anonymous questionnaires sent to all students across the Senior School to gauge potential changes. We recognised the importance of fostering inclusivity and moved to a model where all, rather than just some, have access to performance clothing. For the first time, every student in the Senior School who wishes to play netball will now have access to and play in professional performance kit.
Moving beyond the traditional PE/Games kit paired with a simple netball bib or patch, all players at Queen’s will now wear a branded performance dress. This represents a key performance enhancement introduced without adding any additional financial burden on parents. This change not only enhances the appearance of our netball teams but also fosters a sense of pride and unity among all players, regardless of their level of participation, a move led by the power of student voice!
The introduction of the new kit represents more than a change in uniform; it symbolises a broader shift in how we view, listen to, and ultimately support our students’ participation. We recognise that simple things, like not having access to a performance dress when some others may do, may be a major barrier to student confidence and ultimately, participation. We are focusing on ensuring every student feels included and celebrated, regardless of whether they are competing at the highest level, playing for the love of competition inside school, or simply, and perhaps most importantly, enjoying being physically active and developing a love for sport!
This transformation has been made possible thanks to the kind sponsorship of My Day, whose partnership has enabled us to make this vision a reality. Their support has ensured that every student who steps onto the netball court does so with confidence, pride, and a sense of belonging to Queen’s College, Taunton.
As netball continues to thrive at Queen’s College, this new kit is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity, aspiration, and excellence. We look forward to seeing our students represent the school in their new performance dresses, showcasing their determination, teamwork, and love for the sport.
