Years 3 & 4 vs Wellington – Another fantastic, spirited performance from the Year 3 and 4 girls in their hockey match against Wellington this week! It was uplifting to see their determination and resilience on the pitch. They played a huge amount of hockey for their “little legs,” and the staff were incredibly impressed by their work ethic. A perfect example of this was one of our intrepid players who, in an attempt to stop a Wellington player, fell over three times. Although a little hurt, she played on even when asked to come off—absolutely amazing! Well done to all the girls.
Years 5 & 6 Fixtures at Millfield and Sherborne – Wednesday saw a busy afternoon with a set of matches at Millfield and Sherborne for the Year 5 and 6 squads. The U11 squads had an early start, eating lunch on the way to fit in two mini-matches. We struggled a little against some well-drilled Millfield teams who used their space and skills effectively. Sherborne was also a capable opponent, and we didn’t quite manage to get firing, which was a little disappointing. Our goalkeepers played extremely well, however, and Ffion and Elizabeth deserve special mention for their fine efforts. The U10 teams had more positive results, with both the A and B fixtures being very even. The B team played Sherborne and secured a draw after fighting hard, and they managed to both score and concede against Millfield. The A team lacked their usual finesse on the ball, but as Mrs. Foster noted, despite not playing their best, they battled ferociously and were unlucky to leak a single goal.
Rugby
U10 vs King’s Burton – What a day of rugby at the King’s Bruton Festival! Our semi-final had everything – intensity, skill, and heart – and though we were unlucky not to come away with the performance we wanted, it was a sporting display to be proud of. From the opening whistle, our team dominated the collisions and we attacked with confidence, combining for a brilliant team try in the corner. The opposition fought back, but our defence held firm with relentless tackling and huge effort across the park. In the final moments, we were just inches away from snatching victory – denied only by a cruel bounce and a desperate tackle. The result didn’t go our way, but the spirit, teamwork, and determination on show made it a fantastic day of rugby and a clear sign of how far this team has come.
U11A – The key target for the squad before the game was bravery in defence and they all embraced this! The boy’s attack is definitely their strength but in this match they added superb, brave defence to their armoury. As a result, this put pressure on the opposition when they were in possession of the ball and they ran out of attacking options. Result; Queen’s regained possession and scored some wonderful team tries. Rugby’s a simple game; go forward in attack and defence! A real step up in performance this week, from an already high level. Great work boys!
