Students Rally Behind Rowbarton Pantry in Woolmer House Charity Day

Woolmer House concluded a successful Charity Day in support of Rowbarton Pantry today.

Under the leadership of Head of House Jack  (Year 13), Woolmer House this week completed its final service event of the year, by collecting food hampers for Rowbarton Pantry. This week, every year group gathered donations of carefully allocated items: tinned fruit and vegetables from Year 7, tinned meat and soup from Year 8, ready meals from Year 9, tea and instant drinks from Year 10, grains and pasta from Year 11, and a mix of all categories including sweet treats from the Sixth Form.

On Friday, students were invited to bring in at least one donated item in exchange for being allowed to wear non-school uniform, depositing their gifts at their year bases. During Pastoral Time, Woolmer House members worked together to assemble beautifully arranged hamper boxes, each accompanied by a handwritten note expressing gratitude to the pantry team and the wider community.

Next week,  on  Tuesday, 6 May, Jack and a small volunteer group will deliver the completed hampers to Rowbarton Pantry at Rowbarton Methodist Church, where Reverend Deborah Kirk and local volunteers will receive the donations. The pantry, which rescues surplus food to prevent waste and offers it to members for a small weekly fee, was delighted to receive the support, especially as these items are often in short supply.

The successful drive not only reinforced Queen’s College’s long-standing commitment to community service, following previous efforts supporting Musgrove Hospital’s Children’s Ward, the British Heart Foundation, and environmental projects. But also gave Woolmer House students hands on experience of organised charity work. Jack reflected, “Seeing everyone come together so enthusiastically has shown just how much we can achieve when we put service at the heart of our school.”
